  1. This is all I have pictures of, after a week at the forge. My scrap pine pile is some what diminished. . It was my intention to spend two weeks at the forge but a weeks bad weather and digging in a gray water field shot that idea. The rest of the list included shelf brackets (rim shoes and a set of 3/4x1/4" with 1/2" square) trivets, hoof-picks, bottle openers and such. A lot of scrap shoes, but often as not just bar. I have two jewelry boxes as well as a couple of hand fulls of nails
  2. If putting twin rams under the press isn't counter intuitive... Thanks for your thoughts and time.
  3. Earlier the cutting shelf and face plate step where mentioned, the biggest advantages to this is it diagonal punching/slitting of square stock (from the corner) or the slitting/punching of round with out a bottom swage.I find it useful for square bends as well. One is less likely to impart twist. Not a big fan of perimeter welding myself, but if you think of power hammer and hardy hole tooling it certainly has presidence.
  4. Ok, artist and sgt. Yates take a breath and shake hands. I would hate to see either one of you put in a corner by Admin. We are guests here. I believe a competent weldor can benefit from advice from profetinal insructors, even on line. Remember basic? " their will be an explination, demonstration and practical application of the M16A1 rifle...and for those of you who can read we have a manual" Not every one needs all of those steps in training, some already have a foundation that allows them to benefit from the explanation and or manual, with self guided practicals.
  5. Thank you 2CC With respect to Glenn's wishes, and all our brothers and sisters beliefs, pleas IM me if you wish to openly reveal the face of The God(s) that you know. I appreciate your thoughts and prayers from any quarter, but I do not want any heart or hard feelings to come of my request for aid.
  6. You guys are making me homesick. The house I grew up in just south east of the corner of Cave creek road and carefree hwy is now a stripmall
  7. Not only do I wish to extend my Chriatmas wishes, but also my wishes to you for all the other winter/summer celebrations! And thank you all for your good chear as well. Spent the day with my parents, kids, grand baby and the woman who has resently clamed my heart, spent this evening was spent with Sandy's daughter and fammly. As aposed to coal, i loaded down stockings with steel this year. Ecept the two grand babys, lol they gor cudly gifts.
  8. Document the restoration and make up a poster to display in your shop. Best of both worlds.
  9. Thank you, Dick. He dosnt seem to woried, and he taught me panic never solved anything. So we will go forward like always, come the sergery we will know for sure, and we will go on from there.
  10. Look for 18 TPI blades lol. Some times a mechanical hacksaw blade (1" as oposed to 1/2)
  11. My Dad went in to have a persistent cough checked out, after being lectured for not having the pneumonia treated that has left scar tissue in his lungs, the dock sent him to have a suspicious shadow checked out. Turns out to be a walnut sized tumer. 98% chance it is benign, but to be sure they have to take it out, and as it is in the center of his kidney they will be removing his kidney the second week of January. Luckily I have an old and dear friend that is a Nephroligest and he concurs with the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment plan. Ladies and gentlemen I would greatly appreciate your thoughts and prayers. .
  12. Hard life, but look at the horn weld and the abouae its taken already, I doubt a 4# hammer will hurt it. I'm with NJ on that.
  13. The real question is what the "86xx" stands for. Crome dosnt like to forgeweld, so if its cromemolly forgewelding is out unles your really realy good. Is the axle realy 1018? If it is you should plan on steeling your axe. This is a good use for the above mentioned spring. Truck axles are usualy more alonfg the line of 6040, wile spring, torsian bars and anti-sway bars are along the lines of 4060 (or what ever was cheapest that would do the job long enugh to get out of waranty) Either make prety good axes. If you are planing a rap and weld insted of a punch and drift axe remember most aut spring has crome in it and it dosnt like to stick to its self, either use the spring as the edge or use an old file as the edge So the spring will weld.
  14. Could it be a holding ficture for engraving a production line of silverwear?
  15. Has any one used that new high cromium low nickel stainless from SA? Forgot the designation
  16. Carbon steel works just fine, but it takes a bit more care. 304 or 316 stainles is nice to,as it doesn't corode if properly pickeld
  17. Experiment with pipe and dirt. 1 1/2" (3.75 cm?) pipe is a common recomdation for a large side Blast,3/4" (.80cm?) pipe for small rivet forges. But playing with bricks and mud will let you figure out what your bower will do befor building a forge. Even a bottom blast can be fabed up to see how big and deap.
  18. I was thinking of a gas forge on the other side of the hammer. Pass the bar threw the hammer, heat the bar and pull the bar back to forge. Use the hammer as a rest.
  19. The transformer may be a bit light. Watts is amps times voltage. So at 12volts your looking at 1.5 amps, tho 3 amps at 6v might survive. You do have the advantage of different voltages (fan speeds) as the resisters induce a voltage drop . I would really look at Something in the 1200 watt or 10 amp neighborhood. Tho of the top of my head i don't know the amperage the blower draws, electric motors draw more at startup or under load. It will draw much more electricity in free are than it will when it is hooked up because of the restriction from the pipe and fuel. If the transformer Is inexpensive, so as not to cause you hardship ( i mean no insult but I don't know how expensive it is there and what your income is) try it, if it smokes the transformer you know it wont work, tho the transformer should have a fuse or fusible link to prevent it from overheating and becoming a fire hazard. As to the bellows, try restricting the outlet and/or enlarging the inlet and outlet valves. If the bellows is designed for a 1.25cm outlet and you have a 2.5cm one that is a huge difference as it is a difference of nearly 4x the outlet area.
  20. Most 12v transformers are a bit small, a computer powersuply is probably better. Build a set of bellows out of a couple of inner tubes and be dun, lol i haye to admit my favorite setup is a manual matrice/boat inflater that looks like a giant bicycle pump. Quiet and no plugs, lol
  21. Vaughn, Looks allot like the doore track setup I'm familiar with. J, at the price of acetylene these days I'd move the darn forge, lol.
  22. It becomes a real problem for FFA and rodeo/horsemanship programs, as the liability of not leting students carry a knife is an issue. Large animals and ropes meam entaglements and other situations that requre cutting a rope in a mater of seconds. Recue tools have proven to be inefective. As to school shootings, most perpitraters sufferd from PTSD, yes severe bulling can cause it, as can sexual and lusical abuse. The high cortisol levels prevent normal brain development. School adiministrators that still take the "boys will be boys" are part of the problem. As are school administrators that do not report crimes. When I was in school, I new who caried guns and knives in school (I carried a knife for the first two years) I remenber the natinal news havind a conniption in 86 about it, I temember thinking "and?!" But then again the Army was dening that the Bradly fighting vehicle would sink (saw two sink), lol. Sad that the kids are having to strike and hire lawyers to get bullys expelled. Nj, I must say, thank you. Teachers are one of the most impotaint peaple in the world
  23. Most of us are to wise to say that, Jammer. Those that aren't soon will be...
