  1. Saw this video first and i tought you dont need nail set if you have anvil and i got woried and saw that first one in topic that nail can be made a litle bit harder on anvil only.
  2. Yes iam cross dominant too . That word was what i i was looking for.
  3. I mean post vise. Ian using it for upsetting nail heads.
  4. Is it harmful for vise to pound nail on it? I saw it that someone make nail like that.
  5. YOu know iam right handed but my eye is kinda left how to say in english. There is one test when you make triangle with fingers and you watch with eyes long story short my dominant side is somehow when i want to aim at something left,or i want to saw wood or something, i use left eye but when i want to work i use right hand. That phenomenon is called in medicine somehow but i forgot. Yeah like ocular dominance. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocular_dominance And here is test about it so you can find out too And for me if i dont bang my hand on hardie wich i doubt will happen becasue anvil is short for that , and i put hardy hole away , when i dont use it. That's one reason why i investigated on net why hammer hand should not be on toe end of anvil. Its 50 kilograms . about 110 pounds.
  6. Hi i got confused when i quench steel and i want to see colors it get dirty. Do you guys grind shiny before going to fire? How to do it so it dont oxidize , or get dirty. I had luck couple of time set it in fire (steel) than as it is non magnetic i quenched it, then set it in anvil and used a litle bit file. But i saw blacksmith using angle grinder first than quenching. I heat treated center punch chisel like too. Its realy hard to see tempering color.
  7. Its fixed now I don't have to reach that far for switch . And protection in case spark might fly away. https://www.iforgeiron.com/uploads/monthly_2022_08/VID_20220828_133718.mp4.6d6a09def1427b027e25439660a80c25.mp4
  8. Here is mine I like the things about hardy hole being close to center then it going to edge of heel. I have dillema about wich side to put horn, on right side is my forge and on right side hardy hole.
  9. Ian not sure I guess if you can hold piece of metal with legs and punch hole with set and hammer it's proper height.
  10. Sometimes simple solutions are best Since I couldn't open turn switch handle and add more cables I just made way so my cable of forge get "extended" by removing some holders that keep cord short, path is now shorter and I can add extension cord with switch and fasten that cable so it can act as switch.
  11. I will but i forgot is it knife or chisel. And by the way knife cracked
  12. I usualy dont hold hammer so tight. If you grip it too tight your arm and elbow will hurt and i think hand too, but if you dont grip it att all it will fall off hand . Find middle there is video on how to grip i think only two fingers need to hold it thumb and index and other are just swinging by.
  13. Reason why i stop Thomas with making something is realy iam waiting some firewood stumps so it should come soon. And i would have right material.
  14. All right folks i will have to change place of switch i have litle spot on hand from heat so yeah. I wont use extension cord becasue (fan) cable is too short. I wonder is it safe to attach cable to cable and just connect faze and zero to faze and zero and ductape it? I maybe dont need to take all apart. This cable go from fan to electricity . Point off all this fuss and fiddling so o can move switch to comfortable side. Where I don't get my hand burn by spark..
  15. Yeah they are called jaws
  16. This title give me chuckle I can imagine someone siting across table and having some drink with post vise
  17. Well didint knew where to add this thread so hammer and nail should go together right. It is interesting technique how this nails are made. It can help someone who dont have vise or tool for making nails.
  18. Watching striker striking on tool set kinda make blacksmithing less attractive In past they did like that, there is difference when you are making something with small hammer and when you need striker its then become realy labour challenging.
  19. Frosty Ian familiar with them I lost one in my chests somewhere. Mine was just nailed in stump.
  20. I wonder is anyone tried to peen sycthe on blacksmith anvil? Is that posible, is that harmfull for anvil?
  21. Tehnicliy it is posible but you need to plane two surfaces good so glue can stick to them.
