  1. I would not reccomend one without vise!
  2. One intresting question that come to my mind. How does one molt steel iron etc without molding pot that hold that molten metal. If you hold it over fire i guess forge will melt pot too. But it stay yellowish somehow i saw on youtube.
  3. Oh sorry for late reply just they dont allow it. No explanation.. I think its political thing controversial becasue on window off church its writen Catholic Bosniaks of Sarajevo wich today Croats /catiohlics/ deny. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethnic_groups_in_Bosnia_and_Herzegovina
  4. Nice setup Thing is I need horn to make big radius and to forge circle Only for that , I saw on YouTube it's possible to forge ring with only hting piece on edge of anvil and it somehow sold in circle, don't know how. But it requires some skill Someone familiar with it
  5. Well my bench grinder is on workbench now, some vise and I think one shelf that hang on to it so yeah. It's like 6 foot length and 2 foot wide. On other side of wall there is shelf . Well Iam jack of all trade in 10 by 10 workplace Kirk 3 metres by3 I'd converted correctly.
  6. WEll drill press is next on my bucket list. I forgot about that one. Iam buying too much tools for this small space lol
  7. Yeah i know same i felt about bellows thats old for 200 years maybe . But i didnt find who made it. just saw that model and stye of woodwking is from Austro Hungarian time, i get what you mean . Sometimes it make me sad even i am young that some my tools will live longer then me. Acctualy i have mixed feelings about it.
  8. I dont have enaugh railroads now. But iam thinking geting some. And making anvil. just i dont know will stick welding with 2.5 mm electrode hold up weld or 3.2 mm strong enaugh. I heard you can weld with thin electrode and make more pass with it only. My welder lie that it have 400 A strenght in practice it have only 200 -250 maybe. Thats why iam asking . Iam planing to build it more wide and thick than long because shop is not that big. One hardy hole and one pritchet hole (rare some anvils have pritchet hole) and one horn for that. Its big project , hardest part will welding bunch of rr and shaping cone, than attaching that cone of anvil body somehow tongue and grooving it and stick welding.
  9. Does it sound wierd that i dont want to buy anvil right now becasue i dont want to buy something expensive and pound with hammer on it i missed today with my chisel since i used to cut some rod, and it hit "railroad anvil" and now its mark there. I tought man if i bought real anvil i will feel bad hiting and damaging it. For anvil i only need horn to be honest and hardy hole, i tried once is it posible to weld some steels with arc welder (need to take up pounding ) once tried but i didnt get good result. Is it posible to stick weld some junk to railroad. I have something in mind but sometimes theory is not like practice.
  10. I think my tool evolved overnight . I never saw that chipping hammer can evolve into hot set or maybe it's cold set . Well I cut some rod with it. I like feeling if having arms faar away from hammer. If this rod ever break I will start hole inside and attach wood handle, but I first need to forge drift for that . So maybe this can help someone.
  11. You need to know to wich side to twist it It's not same! And don't use thin metal as I did This twisting is not easy like it is in picture. You need to have some distance between " imagined boss" and jaws. If not you twist rivet and screw everything up. This twist later cause problema because one side rub against eacother . And sometimes reins need to be adjusted , I didn't had much success with this method.
  12. Than Ian sure you are familiar with tradition of drawing out axe ,instead of only grinding it When axe get old they used to have it to blackmith he remove handle and restore axe by reforging it blade , then grinding it and filing it. And I saw Smith using rug attached to steel rod, so he chased color when one side of edge were hotter then other he use to cool it down. And he used that rug to control charcoal fire , he explay he do that because economic , don't eant to waste fuel.

    Buy those tongs?

those two with shipment 52 dollars
  14. Well i have trouble with heating steel, i will blame it on my forge bellows and other stuff but i think its up to me. Realy no blackmith in my place do it, and i heard some secret about mixing it with mud weld. They didnt had borax all time.
  15. Well iam cheater and i use stick welder i will blame forge and fuel for my lack of skill so i skip that part off heating steel boraxing it and pounding it until it dont behave and stick.
  16. I tought Ian only one with problem cutting too long stock Better longer than shorter. There is one funny proverb "I cut it three times and it's still too short" like parody for measure once cut twice.

    Buy those tongs?

    I. dragon forge clay works I saw one blacksmith stick welded jaws to reins , I can do that too ,but my material will be leaf spring welded to mild steel wich is what I heard not best options for tongs to be made out of high carbon steel . Thing is to be honest I compare to ga to pipe wrench and tools that is harder to make and you can get good quality liep wrench for that price And thing why they are expensive is that they are sold secondhend (not from balckamith directly, but from dealer). And about post I forgot to say I don't have material (bed part that is included in text I saw that post long a go good idea but I dont have material). I think I tired this before had too thin stock and it ended miserable, one notice you need to know on wich side to bend counter clockwise or clockwise because if you are lefty or rightly that depends too

    Buy those tongs?

Well i wonder how much it will cost shipment and all. I bargained from 70 BAM around 46 dolars with shipment to 50 BAM 26 dollars with shipment i mean i tried. BAM-bosnian convertibile mark money value. I will see how it will goes. I asked for wolf jaw tongs (since they are harder to forge) and if tha dont end up well i asked for classical flat jaw tongs. And Charles its realy cheaper even to buy that blank than to buy 20 foot big mild steel rod and drive it to home just to cut some small pieces of it for tongs But devil is in details (4 pieces of tong blanks ) Price $34.99 AmazonGlobal Shipping $71.02 Estimated Import Fees Deposit $30.42 Total $136.43
  20. So he wanted something like jig? It is posible but one thing i learned about blacksmithing is you allways need to forge one tool to make other tool.
  21. WEll its true but i bought thin mild stock it was not that expensive squere stock like 14 mm in deameter 0.5 inches At shops i didnt get to pass by carbon steel (REASON why my font is bigger is that i copied converted metric measure from google and it messed text now. It is harder to buy new carbon steel (and i guess more expensive) than mild steel even with mild steel (for tongs that i wanted) i didnt get quite right dimension i wanted thicker piece but didnt get any .
  22. Bill Ian not familiar with carbon rage in steela and I heard it depend on countries how they mark them. Well I don't i wanted to buy one for rivet making but I see I will have to have two one for that soinga me other for working. And one thing too which is wierd in country like this I visited like three junkjard for some materials and got only lucky with leaf spring wich folk gave me for free when he heard I want it for blacksmithing. Ian looking now for some coli springs but I want to buy it like junk iron steel not like car part, it is cheaper to buy it by weight then by "car part" but didn't had lucky. I have to search more those car wrecked places.
  23. It's hard to cut them to with angle grinder. I might try to buy coil spring I saw video it can be made of coil a lot.
  24. Well I quit it . Deednt get enough temperature today and I guess I will stick to lighter one. I will use this piece for other project but it's really time and fuel consuming
  25. Well I guess you are right guys but Ian really thinking of making hot set vchisel from this piece . I like to have it on wooden handle I know it will be ugly shaped but maybe worth trying. I know I will lost lots of fuel in process But i think od it as exercising.
