  1. Got another unusual German anvil I'm looking for info on. This one is for sale at this weekends CBA Spring Conference here in Vista CA. Measures about 34" long and 5-6" wide on the face. He thinks it's over 750lbs and with the base much more. No discernible markings on either side. From the priveus owner, it was rumored to have come off a German warship from WW2. He's asking $3K for it. By the way I'm not buying, just trying to help this guy out with some intel.
  2. I'm the one holding the California stock for Rapula. Something like 7,000lbs of European anvils, vises and other equipment. Some of the pictured items are already sold. After the CBA Spring Conference next week, I'll post what's available here on the tailgate page. For example, the swage block, the tank anvil and the small Peddingus anvil are gone. Also the S&S and one of the S&H anvils gone. If I sell anything through IFI, I want to make sure they are acknowledged and compensated.
  3. Just got my dream double horn anvil after a two year wait/hunt. This 407 lbs anvil now needs a clean up and a good stout stand made for it. Made in 1949.
  4. I too saw this anvil before Rapula picked it up, very skinny for its size, like 4" (I've forgot the actual size) and the multiple step downs in width. Josh from "anvils4sale" emailed me and stated it could have been a custom order industrial anvil.
  5. Like the colors you picked. Going to paint the other one to match?
  6. Maybe it's wishful thinking and/or the retired firefighter in me that thinks this could of been an anvil or two that was in a large factory fire and had some tubular object collapse onto them. I've seen a lot of strange "stuff" after a structure fire or even a large wildland fire. The wishful part is that someone didn't do this intentionally!
  7. And I'll be one of your first buyers of your book when it comes out. Really enjoy my two Fishers.
  8. I got to see your Dragon last weekend and spent some time talking with you on Sunday before my wife drug me away to see a show. Wish I could have stayed awhile longer but we must keep our wives happy!
  9. My condolences to you. Time to plan for a bigger better smithy!
  10. We've been working together on importing 10,000+ pounds of blacksmithing stuff from Germany for the last two months. I'll be storing it for him once it gets here next month (I hope). I get first pick of the shipment before he puts anything up for sale. There have been several delays between the shipper and customs, hopefully on time now.
  11. I would suggest that you join the California Blacksmith Association and try to plan on attending the Spring Conference down in Vista (just north of San Diego) April 24th to the 27th. Just get on their website; www.calsmith.org and I hope to see you there!
  12. Ditto on the South German double horn with upsetting block AND a side table. I don't own one yet either. But I will by next month. Picture for reference only.
  13. I'm one of those who have no problem looking up dates for peoples anvils. Give me a chance to open up Postman's book and end up on a bit of a tangent sometimes after finding the info. On the subject of newbie questions, yes it probably has been answered before, but sometimes you get a fresh perspective on an old topic when answered by someone else. As far as the old adage that there is never a stupid question has never had to train kids right out of high school to be firefighters, this would also apply to rookie smiths I guess.
  14. Thank you for the input. I think I'll pass, I have two nice Fishers already.
  15. There is a very unusual Fisher for sale on that e something place that I'm wondering if it's a hack and weld job or the real deal. Seller says the odd tail was welded on, but I was wondering if it was one of those special Fishers. Hoping nanvilman will chime in. Dated 1920, weighs 130# Marked 12. So far it's cheap and not to far away from me, well only 4 hours. But I drive by Pasadena a couple times a year.
  16. @ Joshua, did you grab the 300#'r too? I saw they both (and others from the same guy) got pulled. Way to far for me to even contemplate the purchase.
  17. I am totally sorry to say it was only 65 here today (and for the past two weeks too) in sunny central California. Dry as hell though! Please send your excess snow/rain out here for us. We'll take the cold too!
  18. Met him last year I Placerville CA at the CBA Spring Conferance. He really knew his way around a powerhammer! I'm really glad I bought his DVD on powerhammer use directly from him. Going to miss his style of instruction that captured your attention!
  19. I would be at the front of the for a updated book! Used it today to answer somebody's question on a Trenton anvil.
  20. From your tag as "SteamPunked" do you do any of the events down south? My wife and I are very active up here. Even going to a steampunk party tonight. If you want a link, PM me for it's a no-no on the forum.
