  1. Sure like the finished product! Can't wait to see the next project. I'm slowly working out a war hammer too, pictures to come when completed.
  2. I had recently ordered some arrows from a guy in Texas and he shipped them to me without the heads attached. He included a tube of "Fletch-Tite" from Bohning Archery. Seems to be holding up alright.
  3. Very humbling to say the least! True artistry.
  4. For the Little Giant experts out there, the serial # is P364. There is a small brass plate under the raised lettering on this side of the picture stating "Herbert Moore Machinery Company San Francisco". Anyone got a foot treadle and linkage they don't need?
  5. Will be ordering the DVD soon. Along with some parts after I inspect the frame once it's clean.
  6. I finally got lucky! Spotted a FB post where a gentleman was selling a 100lbs LG cheap last week. Most times something like this is LONG gone or i procastinated just a little too much.Yes it needs some TLC, but it's mine as of today! Needed a tow truck to get it out of the barn it was in and I was fortunate that a traksteer was available to unload. At 3400 lbs, it had a hard time lifting it. Looking forward to the rebuild as soon as my remodel of my shop is done. May have to go take one of the Little Giant rebuild classes...
  7. I would of bid that too. Been checking several on line auctions and haven't had any luck. Did find a 100# LG on FB the other day, going to go pick it up tomorrow.
  8. I agree with everyone here, Nice Find!! I just bookmarked that web site!
  9. I also have to say that's a very cool forging. I may have to see what I can do with 25 lbs LG.
  10. I have a situation like Frosty, my shop also has an EM shield with FM radio. I mostly listen to satellite radio with an outside antenna. Spectrum, Octane, Hair Nation and some of the comedy channels are my music for creativity.
  11. And I posted one of them! I don't know where the acorn table video came from, but it fits.
  12. Go check out Part 2 of this collection from Mossy Hollow. And this video for acorns
  13. Congratulations Joshua! Welcome to the ranks of people who wake up each day and it's a xxxx FINE DAY EVERY DAY! I'm a retired federal firefighter, loved my job, but 31 years of going up and down those mountains take a toll. Now very happy to spend some time at the anvil or traveling. Spending some time in Gillette WY right now!
  14. Dale sure likes to stir the pot! I was with him yesterday and he'll contribute to any conversation, just kidding Dale!!!! I too will be fabbing a new coal forge later this summer and have been following this thread closely for good ideas. Like the idea of a hood. My last outdoor event I was covered in ash and my tent too! 5-6' of chimney to loft the ash and junk would do the trick.
  15. A friend of mine sent this u-tube video to me that was fascinating! Nearly all their equipment is belt driven. Sorry no blacksmithing equipment, all woodworking. https://youtube.googleapis.com/v/_mKSKZau9qs?ytsession=AUEUInfe_ZGD1X3e4DMhpaoKLOIGgKCoCrUUg1F9gsxWPXQQZymA7R4kDA3g-mAe2JP_n-94g-gwZgZKRvP7uBgkt6YKN41qLd44ZXJSQjxiUk9yQTzOW0_P0pyYI4-Hwt5wZBUntnlCHAUhbFfVVw If it does not work, just type into U-Tube search "Steam Powered Box Factory" It's about 14 minutes long.
  16. From the guy that's a tinny tiny ways south of Yosemite, we use a SMALL bit of diesel on some wood shavings to get the fires going. I won't use anything more volatile, like gasoline due to the danger of a blowback in the blower, i.e. explosion, not good! I was with Dale today over in Mariposa doing some hammering. I'm mostly doing instruction these days for the lead blacksmith been a bit under the weather.
  17. A 150 lbs dated 1942 with a "D" on the foot. A 120 lbs with no date Both have lugs
  18. Just now getting back to this topic line. I don't think I would use the above wheeled stand for anything above 150 lbs. the balance point would be too small to overcome by upper body strength alone. I was a big fan of using truck (big truck) brake drums as a base for a stand, but they were a bit of a pain to move around. Though they did work on concrete somewhat. I recently had a 300 lbs Vulcan on a brake drum stand that I could slide and/or "walk" into position. For my next large anvil, ie, 500 lbs or more, it will have a nice solid wood base with no wheels. If I need to move it, that's what my John Deere is for.
  19. Glad to see this tread started, it was a wake up call for me as I too I'm starting to do more demos away from home. Going to call my accountant, insurance agent and my lawyer next week. I'm already covered when I do a California Blacksmith Association sanctioned events, but I'm now doing Ren Faires and charity events.
  20. I needed a small portable leg vise for demos away from home. I picked up this 3 1/4" vise and with ideas I "borrowed" from this forum I came up with this stand. I put a rack on the side for jigs I use and a handle on the rear that doubles as a tong rack. Going to add wheels on the back of the plow disk for travel on hard surfaces once I acquire them. I torched in some holes on the disk to stake it down on soft ground. My other vise had to be taken apart for travel due to weight, it's a 5" vise with a 120# brake drum base.
  21. My 25# Little Giant serial number 311 was purchased new on 1-31-1910 by a TJ Wilson in South Dakota. Still digging into the history of it. It has been completely rebuilt and running like new! Going to get some flat dies for it soon. Doing a remodel on my shop and when done it will be mounted to the floor with a rubber mat under it.
  22. Welcome Oddtodd! I too just helped out at a demo at a local museum yesterday for a group of unruly (private) school kids. Couldn't get them to quiet down till everyone got into place, I just pulled a piece of hot iron out of the fire and got to work. That got their attention! Love doing school groups, just that some are better then others.
