ThomasPowers
One Christmas my wife asked me what she should get for me; I suggested that she get me a book from the Lindsay's Technical Books Catalog, and I marked a bunch of cheap ones that looked interesting. She bought me all that I had marked!
JHCC
Today’s installment: (The book, that is; the dog was already here.)

JHCC
Not quite to the same pathetic degree as this one, I would hope.
Frosty
If it's pathetic and it works it's not pathetic. Offer him a belly buffin from Frosty Please. Frosty The Lucky.
olfart
Driving down our favorite path from town, my wife looked down and said, "There's a horse shoe". I stopped and backed up to collect said shoe and discovered it's a two-fer. Strange. I never realized horses got retreads.
ThomasPowers
Actually per my reading the test for farrier for the US military used to include taking two worn out shoes and forge welding them together to make 1 good shoe; not quite as impressive as the guy who forgewelded baling wire into a shoe---but that wasn't on the test. olfart
These two are connected only by the nails that held them (not very firmly, I'd guess) on the horse. No sign of welding, forge or otherwise.
Daswulf
Maybe the horse had one leg that was shorter than the others. Bet it had a real bad limp after it lost the shoes.
Frosty
Uhhhhh, wasn't that Chevy Chase trimming a horse's hooves in a movie where he was living with the Amish? Frosty The Lucky.
Daswulf
Not sure. Cant seem to find anything. There was "for richer or pooer", with Tim Allen. Not sure if there was something like that in it.
Shabumi
Might be "funny farm" with Chevy Chase, but it's been so long since I've seen it I can't remember. Maybe that shoe was for a tap dancing horse?
pnut
Woody harrelson King pin perhaps Pnut (Mike) He's told to remove the horses shoes and takes off the whole hoof
Frosty
BINGO! I didn't think Chevy Chase's face quite fit but it could've fit one of the Vacation or Funny Farm movies. Frosty The Lucky.
Daswulf
Ah! Didn't remember that part.
BillyBones
Stopped by the old stock supply today and while picking up some more bar stock i was given this. 1" x 1 1/2" x 14" ( or abouts 14") hunk of D-2. I am thinking hardy tools, fullers, cone mandrel, etc. to use it for. Any yall ever use D-2 for tooling? It is a nice big hunk and i would like to figure something out with it. I tried to cut a piece and thought i was going to burn out my angle grinder. Pretty tough stuff.
ThomasPowers
Read the official heat treat specs for it! I know a fellow who used to make blades from it; but by stock removal and had a computerized electric inert atmosphere custom heat treat furnace to get the best from it. (Din't hurt that his father was a research metallurgist...)
