ThomasPowers
Power? What Power? I am starting to envy the old mines that used steam engines to provide local power. If I actually have power at the shop tonight I will see about logging back on and posting about it.
Frosty
NM creation myth has subways AND life!? BOTH!? Did the old ones spell York with a M? Frosty The Lucky.
ThomasPowers
Hmm if we factor in the number of stops/transfers in the creation myths we might make a guess as to where they originated. And what is subway graffiti if not "cave paintings"?
Purple Bullet
Subscribing to Paul Simon's theory that "the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement halls"? Speaking of the sounds of silence, have you heard "Let there be light" yet?
ThomasPowers
Nope and my wife called and told me they left around 12:50pm today. I'm off to go check on things.
Frosty
I think cave paintings are graffiti and caves are the places sheltered enough it lasted. The subject matter hasn't even changed that much. There's an online publication(?) about Roman toilet graffiti, it's all very recognizable. Frosty The Lucky.
ThomasPowers
Well the shop transformer is Humming, they've put a cover over the meter hole and put a lock on that panel; but no power to the shop. I'll call Monday and see when they will place the meter. I sure could have used power in the shop this weekend---Christmas is coming! George N. M.
Possibly a different crew on a different schedule and your meter installation needs to be scheduled. At least in NM they probably can't blame it on union rules. GNM
Frosty
An ominous hum? I'll keep my fingers crossed it's a good omen. Frosty The Lucky.
ThomasPowers
Ohhhh Thank You! I hadn't made that connection! A greenish blob with an ominious hum coming from inside it. I wonder if they would object to me mounting some eyes on it?
Frosty
Different sizes, three or more? Frosty The Lucky.
ThomasPowers
I hope their work isn't Schlock even if they are Mercenary! I have to wait till around 5:30 to see if anything progressed today...no sign as of when my wife left to go to town this afternoon.
Frosty
Maybe install a live feed camera so you can watch them from the office? Maybe you should have Doc and Roger hook it up for you. Frosty The Lucky.
ThomasPowers
No sign of work on electrification yesterday, though we did get a copy of the magazine the Electric CoOp sends out, are they sure what business they are in? Since it's down to the meter it's gotta be done by the electric coop; so they can start charging me. Otherwise I have a friend who's a smith an hour north from me that retired from an electric company and could probably do a bang-up job on his own. JHCC
Maybe remind them that they're losing money until they make the connection.
ThomasPowers
With US$6000 of my money in their hands; I somewhat doubt they are losing money! I am reminded of the old saying "When the fox gnaws---smile!"
JHCC
Yes, but how much of that $6K have they already spent on time, equipment, and labor? That transformer alone can't have been cheap.
ThomasPowers
I'd bet they had a stack of them in the warehouse and so were happy to be able to get it in service; part of their sunk costs. As far as labour, so far they have 1 good day for the crew and several where they appear to be working on the Oz schedule.
ThomasPowers
Well Thursday and no sign of work so far this week; no answers to attempts to contact them either. I'm taking my "go" forge kit to town to teach an intro class at the Community College. Not very formal; just a "get them hooked and show them that they can do smithing" type of class. Luckily it's on Sunday so I will have some daylight to sort and load my equipment Saturday instead of working in the dark after work Friday! The Metal Arts instructor is a friend and lets me do an adjunct class from time to time as they get so many folks wanting to FORGE and doesn't want to handle that part. (Casting, jewelry Fabrication, armormaking, enamelling, etc; but not smithing!)
Steve Sells
I just paid over $600 for a 15 amp 3 pole breaker for a 480 volt panel. All prices are way up for electrical equipment
ThomasPowers
One reason I'm cranky about it taking so long; they may want *more* money to pay for the stuff they could have bought 4 months+ ago! I was real happy that I got the 50 amp 220VAC breaker & outlet for my welder in the money I paid the electrician earlier this year..

ThomasPowers
My wife just called: THEY ARE INSTALLING THE METER! 3.5 hours before I can leave work and see if a light comes on when I flip a switch!
