Hey people,Hoping for some feedback on the new torch I built. I've attached some photos in the hopes that someone could tell me if I need to (or not) do some tweaking. One is of it is with it lit with the gauge barely reading above 0. The other is it at 7 psi. The last is of the throat which is a reducer that is 3/4" x 1-1/2". The jet is 1/8" x 3" nipple with a #57 hole in a cap. I didn't do a water test to center the jet but I tend to have a good eye and centered it pretty well. I also slid the assembly in and out until the flame tried to go out (in both directions) and turned out the center of that created the perfect flame (at least that's what I think, you tell me). At start up with the gauge almost at 0, the flame huffs until i close the choke which is just the top of a tuna can cut out (yes, i watched A LOT of you tube). with the choke closed, it doesn't make any sound. With the choke off and the psi turned up to 7, it roars like a jet engine. From what i read and watch, it sound like i did OK.I accidentally got into this from taking a welding class and one of my projects was a branding iron. I got tired of holding the torch!Comments are greatly appreciated.!
  3. I bought a bran new propane torch for 30 bucks. It will be for my gas forge, once I can figure out why it won't stay lit! The torch is hooked up to a PSI regulator, 0-20 PSI. Here is the regulator : https://www.amazon.com/GASPRO-Pressure-Propane-Adjustable-Regulator/dp/B01M4SA4PG/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&qid=1487707210&sr=8-16&keywords=psi+regulator I turn the psi all the way up and light the torch, and it instantly dies. After fooling around, I figured out that covering the air holes on the burner keeps the flame alive, but burns very slowly, obviously.. The moment I move my hand off of the air holes, the flame goes out. What is going on here?! Pictures of the torch :
  4. Hey I made a simple Ron reil type torch. It runs fine outside of my $350 furnace I just built but when inside it can only operate at lower psi. Upon observation I see the flame gradually leaving the torch nozzle then shooting back untill it shoots away one last time and goes out. I feel like this has to do with either my intake or exaughst. Can post pics of desired.
  5. Hi, im a beginner blacksmith, and i wanted to know if it was possible to use a simple 1lb torch head with a hose directly in a 20lb propane tank to heat up a small homemade paint container forge. If not, wich torch and or material should i get to heat it up to the right temperature. Keep in mind that i am a student with really low budget. Torch that i have : http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31cgyK4N--L._SX466_.jpg Hose that i will get : http://www.devardiglass.com/hose.JPG Sorry if i made grammar mistake, im french.
  6. Hi folks, simple question to all the vets out there... Are these oxy acetylene bottles clear to own and have re-certified and filled? I think they were last certified in '03 and I am not sure about the MGI. I hope that does not mean they are rental tanks. The Acetylene tank is around 8" in diameter and around 33" tall to the center of the valve. Oxy tank is about 4 feet tall.
