  1. Maybe. There is a german and an english fellow member. Both of the bothy club (crazy scottish pipesmoking club). Try it. You will know my name there. Pijprokersforum.be (if not allowed mod, how many points before I'm kicked?)
  2. I smoke a couple of years pipe. I like virginia's, vaper and vabur. Also some oriental is never a bad thing Latakia is for me autum, winter. Viginias and semois summertime. More a fan of the unflavered or light aromatics. Have an old stock of tabaco from 2015 when i bought a lot. Still some dunhills from when they stopped. Almost always have something of MacBarren open, navy flake or now scottish mixture. Also brown sugar flakes from gatwick. A one of they did in 2014. Very nice! And dunhill london mixture Not a big smoker. I think 2 or 3 tins yearly. Pipes almost all estates. Cheapies. Also some good new ones. Yearpipes of a pipesmokersforum (there is another member here also a member there). Around 12 pipes or so. New one comming with christmas (prf pipe) At this moment i have 2 broken mounthpieces and one i think is broken but i don't see it. All of them eboniet and all minimum 50 years old. Mostly billards, canadians, ... straith pipes. I have a couple of bent ones as well. But the tabaccoprices will hike in Belgium next year, so time to go shopping and storing again. Before they stop importing some brands I have to travel for.
  3. So whatcha smoking? You have many pipes? Too windy here (storm Ciaran is passing today) to even think about lighting one.
  4. Parkinson tongs? They are a bit shacky? But a serieus question now, what are they?
  5. It all depends what you want as well. As a maker and a consumer (or your type of consumer). You have people who really like to enjoy and take the max out of the steel in terms of hardness, toughness, ... and invest in a good heat treatmentoven, special oils, ... And you have people who takes it a good enough level. Yes the steel could be harder, tougher, flexible, ... but it is consistance and easy to achieve in their shop. So that also affects the info you recieve and want to recieve.
  6. Thanks. My previous company had a sistercompagny a machineshop. They had trouble finding people as well. But new managment put an end to that shop in 2 years. Lucky there are plenty machineshops in the area so those people didn't stay jobless for long.
  7. That is good. They know what is making them money. Not the machines, but the people at the machines. And they also know that thoae specialist people are hard to find and train To many shops are run by managers who only stay max 5 years. Otherwise they have to deal with their own created mess, but a new manager from managingschool is ready to reform and blame his predecessor, to do the same 3-4-max 5 years later. They don't know, there excell sheet is telling them, they can safe 0,50 cents so they do it. It is less good, that it is affecting your job. Hope it will get better soon. We in the EU are always hearing that in the US the economy is all doing better. But i think it is only the big multi milion compagnies
  8. Good luck man. All the best. Hope the treatment works and you don't get to sick of it.
  9. you have a tiny bottle of beer rrhet
  10. That will not happen. Also don't like basket twist handles, they look old in my eyes. (But will have to make them at my forge lessions). My small forge will not get to welding heat. Tried to, when making a handrake, but nope. The steel stays white yellow, but did not get sticky. Welded that one together with the welder. Is ugly as hell yet, have to make that one still a lot nicer But a twist, probably a cubetwist or a pinapple twist is a good idea. But with rivets (what i want to avoid in the first place). Thanks Iron, but since typing this, both handles will be a twist and will look like a set. You set the ball in motion.
  11. Making a garden trowel. Not happy how the handle came out, will chop it off and make another one that i rivet into place. I want to avoid wood as a handle since I cannot turn it. No idea what i want instead.
  12. sch 80? you work in the shipping industrie? Need to make a cable support, better take a strip of 10mm thick instead of 6mm, it are 2 cables going to 2 different lighting fixtures. But even there we made the railings out of sch 40.
  13. Billy, i have recently seen that documentary. Crazy, so many welds, so many small details and the result is a small piece. But from the time, that the hinges may take up the whole door.
  14. All the manlifts at the shipyard all had elektrical problems at well. The newer ones are even worse. Computers, no relais and more sensors. Ever faster green death for some parts
  15. The hotel staff does not wonder about the powder he left behind, but the color is not right. It is coppercolored, not white like it normally is.
  16. An ofyr, but without the hole in the middle. Still usefull as a plancha type coocking device and no handles just support to keep it above the fire.
  17. Most old machinery in europe with regards to pipefittings also not metric. Somebody changed it. You can do the same. Or not.
  18. Made a small tracing chisel from some coilspring. Was a bit too long, so from the piece i cut off, i made a scribe They are hardend and they work. Chisel is a bit on the thin side. Will see.
  19. Makes me envy and also want a surpluse store near now.
  20. The bowls are selling good, you make a batch often. Good for you and your wife.
  21. The threated one you made looks like the commercial ones you can buy. I have a collegue at work who uses one. He needs to hardstamp a lot (goes thru a couple of hardstamps yearly on mostly brass and steel plates) and since a workrelated accident (after stamping several plates with his proofmark and certificatenumber, he was tired and hit his thumb. The thumb was broken) his department made them mandatory. But those are some sort of plastic. Good for weight, can handle the hits, but in our application probably useless, because heatresistance will not be good.
