  1. Had a nice evening at the forge. Because they are construction my garden I made some leafs. A leaf keyring. No photo, was claimed before I could take it by a friend who came by. And a bottle opener (again). It does it job, but flatting the lip schould do tje job even better.
  2. Sorry I fell of the earth for a week (was on holiday and my wife confiscate my phone, to much workstuff). So a week later than promissed. She liked the dragon from BillyBones the most. Congrats! Everybody else. Good work. Really nice pieces. Makes my want to practice more.
  3. I hope you realise this is all fun and games? I mean, this is all serious and not a joke. Go ahead, corkscrew is a bit more work.
  4. Nice m3f looks actually dug up. I keep the co test open till monday. On tuesday i let my wife pick a winner amd check how i send the price over (and buy it )
  5. Use them as fencepost or supports. Having the zinc coating is a nice protection against the weather.
  6. Yes, twistcaps are for weaklings. Shainarue they look like mine except yours are symmetrical. Which is a feature that is pleasing to the eye.
  7. The small was about the width. The height no idea, i somehow was thinking barheight. I like it. I get why you don't like the X, but the feet with the connection and the support of the top are nice. I really like the upset ends. Gracious ends.
  8. Nice runes on those openers. Like the text Tommy. Scott what does yours mean? Like the dragons as well. Irondragon and billy. The guitar is nice ferritic, not viking style but real cool.
  9. And what is it? Picture a bit blurry and i don't recognize the machine
  10. wow, those vevor forges looks like a copy of devilsforges. Those last ones come with instructions and some sort of protection for the insulation. (don't rub to much against it however, you will poke holes thru the protection). If you already have problems with your lungs, maybe wear a respirator during the forging sessions. You will hit the insulation or the thin layer of protection on top and by doing so increasing the change of getting the stuff in your lungs. If your skills improve and the forge is spend (worn out, ...) and you transition to a better forge (buy new or build your own) you can add beter protection layers on top of the insulation. You will find out, there are much better designs in forges than vevor or devilforge. So no need to rebuild/restore them. At least that is my plan, but i do need to fix the holes i rubbed in my protection layer otherwise I will run out of insulation on that spot and prematurely need a new forge before my skill-level improved a lot.
  11. trucks and/or trailer repair centers. Might be big and thick; but more luck finding leafsprings. Also vans, most still use leafs on the rearaxle. Spirals springs are also good material; but they are coiled from round stock. So a bit more prepwork is needed before you can use them.
  12. We in Belgium have a compagny called "Mobile Vikings". They are an telecomprovider for phones and internet. I just joined them for internet at my house. And received a care-pakkage of them. How nice. It included a bottle opener, viking style Nope, no viking style. Thin sheetmetal covered in plastic. But it got me thinking, since I made some bottle openers recently to make a challange here on ifi. To make the best viking bottle opener. They can be as traditional as you like (mine look like they are actually dug up from a viking site) or just modern viking (whatever that is). Time till Easter? I try to sent the winner something to use it on (if customs allow it). To show I'm a real contender.
  13. Nice tools. Seeing the scroll-tong and bending fork, it reminds me that i need to make those as well. My bending is now a bit wonky, but i don't do it nearly as often to justify the tools.
  14. Arelcrete For first hand experience ask remidw. He seems happy about it. Don't have it yet, nor tried it
  15. Thanks. I get an answer from remidw about his substitute for kast-o-lit. So thanks. When it heats up a bit, i might buy and try it out. I i do, i let the results know
  16. Hello Don't forget oezwerk also germany. Have fun
  17. it is easier to find at artsupplies than building shops. it is marked as a very good cement to cast and sculpt. But hard on the moulds. So Al and Si as additives, thanks. Heat resistant foam stuff in simple terms. Will see if I have time to dive into that one.
  18. Mickey. Thanks. They don't sell zircopax as a brandname, they just sell ZirkoonSilicaat. Could be Zircopax or zircopax plus or could be a different brand. But it is the same thing we talk about, so that is good. Lee and Mickey (again )Yeah, some more digging revealt some other alumium cement. Most cement you find are either portland or blastfurnace cement. Both are more or less the same and completely useless for our goal, since they cannot withstand any heat, 500C is about max. So useless and dangerous. The other cementtype is aluminiumcalcium cement. The higher the aluminium, the better against heat I found as a general rule. Amd i found a brand CALTRA, wich has Calight 40, 50 and 70. The numbers are the percentage of Al2O3. So Calight 70 has 70% of Al2O3 and according their website resistant against high temperatures well above 1600C (2912F). Since it is a cement, it is the base for mortar, concrete, grout, ... It comes in bags of 25 kg. So I am now wondering if I can mix it with some isolationstuff and try casting my own bricks with it.
  19. question about the re-emision mixture you mentioned a couple of times : 95% Zirkopax and 5% bentonite. Is it on weight or on volume? Both are relative cheap to buy at the ceramics store but in big quantities. zirkopax : 1kg for 16euro and 250gr for 8 euro bentonite : 1kg for 4euro I'm still looking for a flamecover. The one supplied with my forge is on some places worn out (from rubbing against it with hot metal, can you image that ). And I do find proper refractory but smallest pack is 5kg. A bit much for a small repair, i can plug my forge with that quantity. Some other info (for EU-persons can be interesting). I found a cement Electroland (used by potterys for repair of their kilns), rated till 1300°C (2372°F). I put their sheet in attachment (if it's not allowed by forumrules, sorry, delete it). it is high in Ca0 (37,4%) and Al2O3 (38%) Can somebody with a bit more knowledge tell me if this can work or not? 11410-CMI-Fitxa-digital_ELECTROLAND_ENG.pdf
  20. Arrived unharmed. Thanks. Send one out soon
  21. Condolances to everyone who was close to him. Hofi, thanks for sharing knowledge here on the forum and in real life.
