  1. Thanks, I just wanted to make sure. I planned on using plistix for its intended purpose since a box forge isn't the most efficient design. I thought it would kill two birds with one stone. Increasing the efficiency and sealing the fiberboard. Well three birds actually. I'm hoping it also increases the durability of the fiberboard somewhat. Since I've never used either product my assumptions are only based on what I've read and I didn't recall reading anything about sealing fiberboard. Hopefully tomorrow I'll have time to get the order in for the forge. Fingers crossed. Pnut
  2. I agree with IDF&C. I couldn't find a picture of it but When I worked at a rubber refinery we used a knife shaped like a saex with a round wooden handle to open everything from pallets of rubber blocks, bags of silica, cut ingredients to weight for the batches and everything in between. It was basically a long extra thick single edged razorblade with a wooden handle.
  3. When I had my assembly company I drove a metal screw into my hand assembling a grill for a Walmart I contracted with. There was definitely no pulling it out. Had to back it out with the drill. Luckily I just had a tetanus shot about six months previous. Pnut
  4. Thanks fellas, I didn't think it would be too good for heavy work but I'm not doing any heavy work currently. About one inch bar stock is the largest I've worked with. The most hammering it would have to absorb is maybe some fulluring, light twisting, and filing small pieces in the vise. The stump I have isn't very stable for twisting. I was thinking about sinking it into the ground but that makes it stationary and the landlord would rather it not be permanent but able to be packed up. Pnut.
  5. There's a video posted on IFI in the video section called The big eight or mastering the big eight blacksmithing techniques. It helped me considerably in the very early stages. Pnut I had to download Gboard to find the clipboard.
  6. I've been called Pnut for about 35 yrs. My long time friends have even shortened it to just calling me Nut. I had a skateboard that was issued by the pro skater Ned "peanut" Brown and someone didn't know my name while we were skating so yelled, "Hey Peanut Brown!", and it stuck. Pnut
  7. Has anyone tried using one of those Jaw horse contraptions as portable mount for their post vise? Pnut
  8. Like Thomas said, I would definitely be worried about filings destroying the motor pretty quickly. Pnut
  9. It's weird but people really don't seem to care at all. I think it's the novelty of being able to tell it was something else before it was a knife shaped object. Pnut
  10. In my albeit limited experience I've found pine charcoal seems to burn the hottest out of the woods I've used over the last two years. Pnut
  11. A chain hold down made cutting hot on the anvil so much easier. I felt like a keystone kop trying to cut a round bar without it. Pnut
  12. I'm pretty sure I know the answer to this question but better safe than sorry. There's no need to rigidize fiberboard is there? I plan on using an IR Re emission coating which should seal it anyway. Am I correct in this thinking? Pnut
  13. Welcome to Earth little sprout and congratulations to the family. Pnut
  14. Incandescent ejaculation Pnut
  15. Check out the post, Tempering 1095 to blue. It may have some info you'd find useful. I'd have posted a link but I have a new phone and I'm not familiar with it yet. Pnut
  16. No, I did not. It completely slipped my mind. I'm not sure how often you need a booster. It's been about three years iirc since I've had one. Thanks for reminding me. Pnut
  17. For some reason in the last six months used anvil prices have nearly doubled in my area. I'm seeing used anvils albeit in pretty good condition going for the price of new anvils. I tried to buy a smaller PW and the guy wouldn't budge. He wanted 750 usd for iirc a 100 pound anvil. That's only one example but I've heard the same story trying to purchase many anvils in the last eight months or so. I decided to stick with my thirty inch piece of heavy rail and an acaccio 66 pound cheapie until I find a used anvil that's selling at used prices. Pnut
  18. Sounds like you're asking about tempering colors. Pnut
  19. There are lessons in the sweat of work, is something I've heard my whole life. When I was a kid I didn't believe it. Pnut

Beautiful work. Give your students my accolades. It's lovely work. Pnut
  21. Being a masonry laborer when I was younger is a contributing factor to my back problems. Carrying two tongs of bricks up a couple stories is hard work and I don't miss it. Pnut
  22. So did I. Along with a hepatitis A, and pneumonia vaccine. I feel like I was trading punches like when I was a Kid. I think the combination made my stomach a little upset but it could have been from fasting for blood work. Got the yearly checkup out of the way at the same time. Good luck. Hopefully they will be effective. Pnut
