  1. Welcome to my world. I still function like I'm 65 but in the morning the 77 reality sinks in. still not going to give up. My mentor Ike Doss was in his forge 6 days a week at 89.
  2. Hi Joe welcome to IFI. Have you read this yet? READ THIS FIRST What would you like to know about your Trenton? Pictures will help.
  3. Thanks... It took me about 3 hours to make it, taking breaks due to heat and dehydration. Don't have a set of them, it's a Mossy Oak 32oz cup/mug (thermos) that Debi takes fly fishing with her. Great I wasn't hungry till now, think I'll make a smothered baked potato & BBQ for dinner tonight. My wife is off fishing in Iowa this week.
  4. Amazing what Google knows... 500 SE 55th St Oklahoma City, OK 73129
  5. John, even though I didn't know your father, I wish I had. I will lift a dram of single malt scotch in his honor. Peace be with you and the rest of the family & friends. Randy
  6. Finished up the cup holder yesterday, made out of 1/2 in round stock. Had a piece about a foot long of mystery steel that moved a lot like spring steel drawing it out. The circumference of the cup is 12 1/4 inches so I drew it to 14 inches to make the penny scroll. Had to put the bottom scroll to keep the cup from tipping over with the small base of the cup. It's comfortable to hold so I think she will like it. Had to wait for the clear coat to dry to take pictures.
  7. At least your vet wrap is still clean, I had my elbow wrapped up last week (bumped into something sharp) and within an hour the wrap looked like I had it on for a year.
  8. To me paragliding is an accident waiting to happen. Condolences to all his fans and family.
  9. I'm not allowed to buy any cordless tools. I probably have a dozen drills, saws, grinders and a weed eater that have only lasted less than a year and the batteries will not take a charge after a short life. My wife says I must have reverse polarity that kills the batteries and to buy replacement batteries (if you can find them) cost almost as much as a new tool.
  10. Yep, I have a 7 1/2 inch Porter Cable that's been going for over 20 years that I got at a pawn shop for 20 U.S. dollars and it was well used when I got it.
  11. I have a cheap HF 4 1/2 inch angle grinder that has outlasted the Dewalt. For the cost of a Dewalt, I can buy three HF grinders.
  12. Like Frosty said, as hot as a cup of coffee. At that temp you can hold it without discomfort.
  13. You can weld that fraying back together with enough heat. I found that out while drawing out the reigns of a pair of nail clippers that I remade into a pair of box tongs.
  14. I suggest reading this about the quote feature. It will help staying off the moderators radar. The quote feature
  15. I have all three volumes saved on my computer, along with the other books BAM offers. Great resource for information it is.
  16. I will light a candle and ring the anvil three times and ask the Goddess, God, and Great Spirit to offer comfort for your father and the family.
  17. I had my first accident like that when I was 10 years old. Tried climbing a tree with an open pocket knife.
  18. We still don't know where in the world you are located. Have you read this yet? READ THIS FIRST
  19. For years I would heat up my anvil with a propane torch because of horror stories I had heard about them breaking in cold weather. It does help with not sucking heat out of the work though. I think the stories may have been legend though.
  20. I believe Practical Blacksmithing is available online as a pdf.
  21. You work wrought iron very hot, way above orange, think welding heat for mild steel high yellow.
  22. No problem storing propane outdoors unless the temperature drops to -45 degrees F. If you are going to run the propane forge inside the garage, make sure you have several working CO detectors. Is there heat in the garage?
  23. It's hard to beat the stink of a coal fire in the morning, I love it.
