  1. Here's a dumb question........What do you do with the vinegar when your done with it? Dave
  2. Randy, Maybe I shouldn't go to North Dakota.......That would give me nightmares for sure...lol
  3. I would post the pic, but I can't seem to get it separated from the add......Now Thomas, you have me wondering which is worse. A tractor or an anvil as yard art? Dave
  4. I was just checking some tractor for sale adds, and saw a pulling tractor for sale with a decent looking anvil for a front weight. If I only lived in Wisconsin......oh well Dave

    Vise ?

I think you can tell which half was in the tank......I use phosphoric acid to protect the cleaned part... If you check the ingredients in the navel jelly or any other rust stop solution you should find the same thing....while your at it, check your Pepsi or Coke soft drink... I've been chastised more than once for recommending phosphoric acid as a rust stop.....I could go on, but that's enough for now.... Life is Good Dave

Arkie, I guess it all depends on what you call big...... Dave

    Vise ?

Arkie, I have ran a 100 gal. tank for months with the same solution. It still works fine, but boy does it get nasty....I'm kinda surprised no one has mentioned the small amount of hydrogen that is produced.....Also, you will find it helps to clean off the part and the sacrificial electrode everyday or so...... Dave

Thanks Arkie, I forgot about that newfangled charger....I wonder if you put in a battery hooked up in parallel, could you fool it to charge? Dave

    Vise ?

51 Papy, any plastic tube that will hold it.....1 Tbls. washing soda per Gallon of water.....sacrificial electrode to + and part to -....more or less line of site action....12 volt battery charger....pressure washer works a treat for cleaning parts and electrodes... Give it a couple of days.....may need a couple more after that......any Questions....I'll be here Dave
  10. Well shoot, I thought I had the perfect solution....Then you have to go and throw family in the mix....lol Good Luck Life is Good.... Dave

    Vise ?

That vice looks like a perfect candidate for an electrolysis tank to me. Enjoy..... Dave
  12. Boondoggle, Nice anvil, I can't think of to many operations that the torch cut would interfere with. Just adds a little character...battle scars common without bothering performance. What part of the planet is she casting a shadow? Dave
  13. Nice job Icguy...Nice wood grain texture. Did you make a texturing hammer for that? Also nice finish. You may want to play with the cut ratios abit more. Maybe shorten the top cut and cut off the bottom to match the depth of the top cut. This will give you more of a ( t ) than a ( +) . Just my personal preference..... Looks to me like you have the cut overlap about right for the size of material. Carry on..... Life Is Good Dave

    Bad news America

Awww geeze....I check this place to get away from politics.......Dave
  15. Uhh Ohh, now I'm really confused....My quench tank is a cast iron pot with a handle........Does the handle have to face a certain way or not? Plus....my dog is in heat and Pee'd in it, I think...Now what? So much to learn......Thanks Dave
  16. I guess my question is........if I use a round quench tank, does it still have to face due north? Dave
  17. Jeepers, didn't realize there was so much wood working involved in blacksmithing......I prefer scale to sawdust..... Dave
  18. Hey Ivan, thanks for the reply. I haven't a clue on how to go about it...But I have a few sacrificial handles laying around, to give it a go. Life is good Dave
  19. Hey Guys, either one of you have a pic of the rest of the handle? That looks awesome... Will I get in trouble if I try to copy that design? I definitely like that.......Thanks Dave
  20. Seldom, I think this is the vid........https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VBQlT1z4pbA&feature=player_embedded I went to a Trailer safety seminar in town yesterday and set up my portable kit....sold a few things and made a few...Anyway, I was down to my last set of split cross earrings and a trucker came up and wanted to buy just one earring.....Told him I wouldn't break up the set, but I had 4 cut 1/8" blanks with me and would try to make him one. I didn't have my camera with me, so you'll have to take my word for it. But it came out perfect on my little rivet forge, first try.....Hit with the brass brush and texturing hammer, three coats of clear enamel, a ring and an ear hook....one happy trucker....one elated iron beater Life is Good ( I couldn't cheat this time Spanky) Dave
  21. They can be cut with a saws-all and proper blade. Just sayin'........ Dave
  22. Aplater, I don't think you should discount the thought of getting an engine from the "engine club guys". Some I know would be honored to furnish an engine to power a shop. Especially if allowed visitation for "show and tell"...and the old geezers could be a good resource for parts and equipment. Heck I bet if you get the club involved you'll have to put in a quick-tatch system, to prevent infighting of club members. As I said before, I would be honored to hook one of my old tractors up to power a line shaft.....Most guys think those old engines were made to work, not sit on a trailer. Dave
  23. Just a final update on this. I got a chance to use the plow yesterday, and the spring worked as it should. As some of you already figured, no breaking, no cracking, and no stretching. Thanks again Life is good Dave
