  1. Thanks Charles, I'm pretty good on noise.... with the turnbuckles on the chains and the magnet on the heel I seem Ok. Dave
  2. Well to explain my situation, I just felt the need to take a couple of pics...... Dave
  3. Thanks........ So in my situation , with a 7/8 hardy and a 1/2 pritchel ,(100lb. A&H) The bull pin will protrude a lot, If all bull pins are created equal. Maybe not such a good idea for me.....Thanks though Dave
  4. Thomas, Just to show my ignorance .......How is a bull pin in the hardy or pritchel hole, any different than leaving a hot cut in place while working......? Thanks for any explanation Dave
  5. Just a note here.....On my last vice mount, I mounted it with the bracket upside down, But I bolted it under the mounting plate. I used flat head plow bolts on top for a flush, flat shelf surface. It makes sweeping off scale and such a little nicer. Also you wouldn't have to look at that broken ear all the time....... Dave
  6. Every time I think about tempering an anvil I get this grand vision I my head of a boom pole mounted to the back of a speed boat, a bon fire on the beach, a 12 volt air mattress blower and several brown bottles.....maybe on my bucket list..I don't know.. Anyway, back on topic, maybe. I have an A&H 100 lb. that I use in the shop I really like. Take this for what it's worth....when I go to a meeting or another shop to work, I find my self fumbling around some on a different anvil. I guess that thin heel kind of spoils me at home. No big deal just my lack of experience. Am I alone on this ? There is just some things I do, that feel normal on that nice thin heel. Dave
  7. Marcy.....just a suggestion ...maybe you ASK Nick to make you one......just say'in......lol Dave
  8. I'm going to try to add a short vid to this post to give an idea where I'm at on this. I have some more pics if needed. As stated before I'm not finished yet, so if anyone has any good suggestions, I can still change a few things. Thanks Dave PA180005.AVI
  9. Well, time for an update......no, I don't have any pics yet. But I think I've got the mechanics figured out the best I can. When I step down on the peddle (not permanent yet). It travels about 20" from the top of stroke to bottom. This will close the jaws 2". Which in my old brain figures 10 to 1 ratio. Sooo ,disregarding friction, If I put 200lbs. on the foot peddle I should get 2000lbs closing force on the jaws. Does that make sense? I do not have it mounted yet but just clamped in one of the other vices. The only 2 test I have done are.....putting my finger in the jaw test (ouch) and clapping a RR spike and trying to twist with a 12" crescent wrench. (couldn't twist it around). I'm waiting to find a suitable plate to mount this on. And, I think I will make it the same height as my anvil as that might be handy at some point. I'm thinking holdfast here. Maybe use one of Charles's fancy RR rail on end anvils for a post to mount it. Any thoughts, additions, or corrections ? And yes I know......without pics it didn't happen......I'll fix that tomorrow I hope Dave
  10. Well, you stumped me there for a minute Frosty....Guess I was barking up the wrong tree.....My Bad Dave
  11. Very good John, just to jump on the wagon......I don't think it can be a fruit pie, all fruit trees I know of have round roots. Dave
  12. Thanks guys & gal. You all have confirmed what I thought I knew. It just helps to update the old memory once in a while.... Dave
  13. I was working on a couple of plow shares the other day, and my 100 lb. A&H anvil got HOT. I know I didn't get it hot enough to hurt it, but , a few drops of water on the face, steamed off quickly. That got me to wondering, At what point would you damage your anvil by working on it with to large of material? Thanks Dave
  14. Hate to say it , but......you put it on upside-down........ Dave
  15. Jeepers Rob, 16 hour days, 7 days a week, for 4 months . I'd be a little more than burned out... Dave
  16. Ha Ha , Alan......Don't ya think it should be working first ? Then I'd have to figure out how to divide all that royalty money with you guys...... To much trouble..... Dave
  17. Thanks guys, VT, I'm going to see how it works with constant foot pressure, with the option to add a locking system on the pedal if desired. Alan, I do have another hole in the cam, forward of the one in use on the vid. It causes the jaw to only travel about 1" It maybe the one I use. Not sure yet. I'm trying to have as many adjustments as possible, at each pivot and linkage length. I have already scrounged the piece to weld to the leg. It has holes evenly spaced for leverage adjustment. More to follow....... Dave
  18. Thanks for the encouragement guys. I still have to plan out the mount and final height of this thing before I really get into the pedal linkage setup. I may have to take a step back and make a few bottle openers......A few 12oz. liquid decision makers could help. Dave
  19. VT, Your way out in front of me so far. I haven't gotten the foot linkage put on yet. The way I have it ,I will not be able to lock in place with out a system on the pedal linkage someway. No way with this design to get past center. The screw can still be adjusted on the back for different size stock. I just have added spacers in there now, till I figure out how long to leave the threads out the back. I do reserve the right to change any and all features at any time......... Dave
  20. This thing may just work out. If the vid shows up, I'm kinda tickled........... Dave PA050001.AVI
  21. Oopps sorry, I thought that was your trailer with the apples... My bad Dave
  22. Sorry Andrew, You are right. I meant no disrespect. Your work is way beyond my comprehension. I am a true admirer of yours. I will leave your thread alone. Thank you for posting. Dave
  23. Small issue : screw grinding and binding on bottom of moveable jaw. Fix : hopefully in progress.... Dave
