  1. Sorry for piping in without an answer to your question, but dang! You should cut some thin slices of that and make pendants. It looks like jewelry to me. Beautiful pattern.
  2. Frosty, just volunteer to help fight the nearest fire for a day... Walk up with the meat in one pocket and the corn in the other.
  3. Creative minds are seldom limited to a single output.
  4. There are plenty of quiet cottages on the various beaches. You just need to be ready to bolt if the owners show up. What is your definition of a decent job?
  5. I'm trying to get vacation set up to be able to make Tannehill. Not sure it is gonna be possible yet.
  6. I always wear a cotton t under my work uniform shirt. The two layers help draw sweat away from your skin to actually keep you cooler. My usual choices in color are a dark blue or sometimes black. My wife has commented that she can tell how hard of a day I had by how far down the shirt the salt lines are from evaporating sweat. The worst days don't show... the t-shirts aren't long enough.
  7. Refractory cement absorbs heat. You'll have to wait longer for it to get to heat, and I believe use more fuel. More blanket and less refractory would be more efficient I believe.
  8. I live in Baldwin County. I started this wonderful obsessio... erm... Hobby, a while back... Then, the AFC website still listed a Bay Forge chapter. I tried emailing the guy listed as forge master and got no response. I met the president of AFC at one of my job sites. Emailed him about joining... No response. I understand there was a falling out with some of the people who were in Bay Forge, but is there any chance a group more local to us on the Gulf Coast might ever start up again?
  9. that would be up to the dm. I have played GURPS supers, Marvel , and Champions. Typically in GURPS and Champions, you choose and build your character using points, of course the DM has to approve the character... With Marvel, it was randomly rolled.
  10. I am not experienced enough to say with certainty, but from what I have read... I would think ribbon burner(s) would be the way to go if you absolutely want to go gas heated. My understanding is also that burners are harder to maintain steady heats for durations that some steels require. Have you looked into electric?
  11. Man! I can barely contain myself waiting to see what gets decided as the genre/game system. So many possibilities, so many ideas... the population explosion of characters/personalities in my imagination is getting rough...lol. Starting to feel like a Champions (superhero game system) character I had that went by the tag "Legion"... he/she/it had multiple forms/personalities, each with different powers/abilities.... the down-side was that stressful situations would sometimes cause an involuntary shift.
  12. I'm good for any genre. If I don't already have it, I'm pretty sure I can find it.
  13. I apologize if my low number of responses in this thread has came across as a lack of interest. I am quite interested in participating. Just waiting patiently to see where it is going.
  14. Oh, believe me, I understand the thrill of a good smash and grab. Just prefer ones where it wasn't ALL there was. Oh... and by the way... I'm in! If I'm allowed... lol. Doesn't matter what system.
  15. Been many a time I have played diceless. It is always best when it is more about the story and character interactions and growth than how many monsters you can hack down. Speaking of the cat reminded me of the time we played at a friend's house who had three free-roaming ferrets. One of them loved to steal straws and cup lids... the other two... well, let's just say you better put your dice back into your Crowne Royal bag after each roll.
  16. Just get someone else to cut down your stock.
  17. Actually Frosty, I think the standard statement about packing "A lunch" needs to be updated. There is soooo much really great and useful info that it will take an average person a few (being optimistic) to read all the relavent threads.
  18. I love my cast iron. And nope... my wife or kids won't clean it either (but they sure do love what I cook in it)
  19. Where's the pun thread? I can't seem to find it...
  20. GIMP. Used the freehand selection tool to outline each one individually and then colorized it. Then repeated for each one using a different color. Haven't managed to talk the wife out of the big screen yet... it's what shee uses for a monitor.
  21. There are at least five lying there. That is, if you are talking about the things that look kind of like open end wrenches with the top prong almost as long as the handle.
  22. You found a real good starting place here. Look through the threads. There is a section for blacksmithing groups, there might be one local to you.
