I've speculated that the rather common flattening of anvil bicks that is seen may be due to 1 "OUCH" too many. The smith flattening the offending bick with a hammer afterwards.

In my research "bick" evolved from the word "beak". Makes sense to me. A nice fellow in Spokane was making nice double enders with a severely blunted horn. I wound up selling it because a pretty sharp horn tip is important to me..

I prefer 'em pointy myself; but I've found that pretty easy to fix with a gently applied flap disk and a little patience.
