Daswulf
An octopus I made to hold a painted shell for the lady. Needs tweaking yet to hold the shell.

Daswulf
More pictures on the counter. More once I get it right. Thanks C-
JHCC
A little more webbing between the limbs, perhaps?
Frosty
Not bad at all Das, I like it. Is it heavy enough to counter balance the weight of the shell? Frosty The Lucky.
Gergely
Very sweet design and execution! And inspiring, too! Bests: Gergely
Daswulf
JHCC, I think it could use a little more as well. Frosty, thanks. Yeah it has the main weight over the hind legs it sits on and will have no problem holding the shell. It just needs a small tweak and I'll get a picture with the shell after work today. Thanks Gergely. I may try another one out of all one piece now that I have the idea in mind.

Tubalcain2
Nice job Das. I envy your sculpture skills big time.
ThomasPowers
Now about your 20' high statue of Cthulhu...
Daswulf
Thanks Tubalcain. Sorry Thomas, that's about 20,000 times out of my league.
Tubalcain2
Cthulhu. I had to look that one up.
ThomasPowers
Put a light in the body cavity and have a desk lamp? It's very well done! (Jules Vern was one of the first SF authors I started reading in grade school. H.P.Lovecraft was in High School...)
Daswulf
Adding more to my already crammed brain there Thomas. Lol. There are so many things an octopus sculpture could do. I like the lamp idea. Which got me thinking of trying to forge one from a piece of pipe. The only problem is I'll never be allowed to sell any of them since Elizabeth loves octopuses ( octopi?)... tentacley things.... Next will be to make a punch or punches to make the suckers on the tentacles.
ThomasPowers
Making one of the legs from pipe to run the cord through for a desk light is obvious. Putting an internal light, LED suggested for heat reasons, and drilling a lot of holes in the body as a night light. Desk holder for a smart phone. Soap holder for a bathroom sink. Book holder for kitchen or desk (Seafood cookbook as an accessory???) You are right, lots of ways to go with something that well done! ausfire
That is way cool, Aric. Amazing when you look at the first pic how you got such a smooth transition from legs to body. Your lady will love that piece.
Daswulf
I just eyeballed them to get them even around the body then welded them on, adding a little weld in a u shape between them for some webbing. The smooth transition is thanks to a tie grinder with a burr bit lol. Then some sanding of course. Then into the fire to shape the legs. olfart
Beautiful work as always, Das! It's especially nice when your work compliments her work, and vice versa.
Daswulf
Thanks Olfart, yes the girl that painted the seashell saw it and thought it worked out great as well.
Frosty
That is wicked cool Das. Those should sell like crazy! Frosty The Lucky.
Daswulf
Thanks Frosty. They should get better and hopefully easier the more I can make. We have already established the endless possibilities. Haha. Next one might be a jewelry holder.
