  1. My tuyere is 3/4" sch40 black iron pipe with a ball valve to control the air flow. That's just in case I hook up my electric blower. I'll get measurements of the fire bowl for you but it's around 8" wide, 4" long and 4" deep with the top of the tuyere at 3".
  2. Oh, I forgot, I changed your measurements a little, I raised my tuyere to 3 inches. I get up to heat faster and if I need welding heat, add a pile of charcoal. Be carefully though, you'll wind up with a molten puddle.
  3. Yes. My cousin has some heavy leather. I just got to take time to stop in on him.
  4. OK Charles. I was a little skeptic when I first started building this thing. I finally got it tuned up and running like I want and now I am amazed. I found the same pump you are using now. At first I'm thinking, no way this thing is going put out enough air to heat metal. Are you kidding me? I'm sitting here pumping the cylinder and I see blobs of molten something flying out of the fire. Got to slow down on the pump. Luckily it wasn't my steel. Anyway, here she is and my first forging session. I can't thank you enough for sharing your knowledge.
  5. CGL I like the brooch. It would go good with my belt buckle. Roman style brooch and celtic buckle Anywho, I have my jabod tuned and I fired her up today. Made this buckle. I'll post a pic when I get the belt done.
  6. I resized it but I don't see why not. Or, you can Google Gar Wood hydraulic lift and get a full size picture.
  7. Look right behind the front seat. Here's a little write up about it.
  8. I'm thinking 1 1/2. My Baldor catalog shows a 1.5HP, 3600RPM, 240V, 56H frame with 8 FLA. You are right. You have a working motor for future projects.
  9. A 56 frame motor at 3600 rpms and 240v is more in line with a 1 or 1.5 HP. Maybe 2 at the most. There are some specials out there though. How does the physical size compare to the 3 HP you have now?
  10. Considering where it is, I vote to leave it be.
  11. I swear I replied to this thread and now it's gone. you quoted it, but didn't reply
  12. 1st question. Did you take the gearbox apart? It is not recommended to take these blowers apart. The gears have a wear pattern from years of use and getting them put back correctly is almost impossible. Not saying you can't do it. Pictures help but they don't show everything. Keep trying. You've got something out of order. If you didn't it apart, contact the person who did and ask if anything is missing.
  13. That might not have been a gamey flavor you were tasting. Anybody know what salmonella taste like.
  14. I had to close the ball valve to cool it down. I stuck a hay rake tine in and it would have burnt in 60 seconds.
  15. Thanks again for all the kind words. I got a lot done on the jabod today. This thing rocks. I have a little tweeking to do. I used my shop vac for air and found out that's way too much. I'll mount my buffalo tomorrow. I'll post more pics tomorrow when I get finished.
  16. Hers another one more welding related but I think it is cool. My sister gave me this magazine rack about 30 years ago.
  17. Thanks George. Yes, it can be beat. Even if, in my case, we get rid of the source. I was actually looking forward to the treatments. I was going to get immunotherapy instead of chemo. I really wanted to be a success story for the treatment. I don't think that is an option now but that's ok, I'll do whatever it takes to survive.
  18. I'm going to try and start my jabod today. Hope I feel up to it. I'll try and get some pics and post here.
  19. There is a small logging rail bed behind my house on the creek from the early 1900's. I use my metal detector and find quite a few. I can pick up 10 to 15 in a couple hundred feet. I need to go back soon.
  20. You mean the old part or the forgot part?
