  1. Wow, that's a heckava hair dryer. Keep us up to date on your forge. I'm partial to side blast but curious how this one pans out.
  2. Bluerooster, why do you think you have too much air? lbs, tell your friend she takes good pictures. She should do it more often.
  3. That one is special and would be called whatever the equipment manufacturer wants to call it. Try a thrift store. You may find one cheap and rob parts from it.
  4. I don't know about y'all but I could use 50+ hours a day. I might get my shop finished.
  5. It is worth a lot more to someone who wants to paint a picture on it. Scrap price for me. 23 cents per lb.
  6. TP, how much you gonna charge them to clean that out? Good score. Don't know what I would do if I found a deal like that. Second thought, I know what I would do.
  7. I like it. Looks like the one I made recently. I think my next one is going to have a chisel grind. How about some details on how you did the checkering.
  8. Looks good. You'll have to make modifications as you go but for now, looks like you're cooking.
  9. Not me. My Toyota truck has a leaking heater core. I been told you have to remove the dash and steering wheel among other things to get at the heater core. I think I can do it without all that. It's a slow leak so for now I'll use it when needed and think about replacing it this spring.
  10. Wish I still had my first truck. Actually, my first three. I could see the ground when I opened the hood. I could get under the hood and squat beside the engine. You could work on vehicles back then.
  11. Yeah, that's a hard one. Those symptoms could be fuel or electrical. Plugs and plug wires possibly? Could be in the timing. Good luck. Let us know what you find.
  12. The hand pump will save fuel. Keep us posted.
  13. You need to build a leanto over your smithy. You said you used clay you dug. Did you mix sand or use it as is? We have red clay around here. I may try that next time.
  14. I tried making the firepot with bricks but like the duck nest formed in sand best. The clay in my duck nest is only about 1/4" thick but has vitrified solid. I could probably pick it up intact. I use the manual pump with the hose coming out the bottom. I also put a ball valve in and close it after every forging. Keeps critters from crawling in.
  15. What's wrong with the jeep? I hate mechanicing but sometime we have to do it. I hate to pay someone to do it worse.
  16. I think the next one I build will be straight sand with clay only in the duck nest. That's the only place it vitrify's. The rest gets crumbly. Any body ever done this?
  17. I'm leaving this one bare. I'm hollowing out a piece of cedar for a type of scabbed. I'll post pics of that when complete.
  18. I got warned for telling the truth. Probably won't be the last time. [Mod note: you got warned for including political content in your comment, entirely independent of its substance. This is a violation of IFI’s terms of service, just as swearing and discussions of religion (outside of the Prayer List) are forbidden. If you have an issue with the TOS, take it up with Glenn. If you continue to violate it, you will be moderated. Thank you for your cooperation.]
  19. I hate to hear that. We still have a paper mill and couple of sawmills. We lost most industry years ago when everything was either moving to Mexico or China. [political content removed] I long for the day our factories come back to the U.S.A.
  20. Not so in south Alabama. I can go to any scrap yard and have free run of the place. Most are charging 23 cents a lb. I love digging through scrap.
  21. Goods, be careful with those. Most rods from hydraulic cylinders, rams or presses are chromed and can be very bad in a hot fire.
  22. I wouldn't spend a lot of money until you've been doing this for awhile. Start with the bare necessities and go from there. I use a 3 x 21 belt sander locked in my vise. It's slow but faster than a file. And it won't ruin a piece if you mess up.
  23. I made this kiridashi for a friend who works with leather. Forged from a bearing race. I think this is the sharpest blade I ever held in my hands. I'll be making another for my self. Sorry about the pic quality. My phone only takes so,so pics.
  24. Oh, he's real all right. I get a bill from him every year.
