  1. OK, we've all got heaps of old bolts around the place. So what to do with them?? They make nice leaf hooks, and if you are careful you can use the threads to form serrations on the leaf. The leaf hook on the right (made from a 3/8 cuphead bolt) in this pic is done like that. Show us your ideas!
  2. Hey all, I am fortunate enough to have been allowed to help out at a historic blacksmith shop somewhat nearby my house. The venue is historic reproduction, so it (to the best of my knowledge) is created after a blacksmith shop around the turn of the 20th century or just before. Half of the shop is seating for observers, and in a good day they say they have between 150-250 or so people visit for demos. My my question for ya'll is, what are interesting demos? The place is outfitted with an astonishing amount of tooling, anvils, floor mandrels, post vices, swage blocks, post drills, bench vices, grinding stone, etc. All hand powered, no electricity. NOTE: all items made are property of Glen Haven historical village and are offered to the visitors with the request of a small donation to the village. I will NOT profit from any of this other than experience. I was thinking Fredericks crosses, hooks, fire pokers, tavern puzzles (this may take too long), bottle openers. I'm open to any and all ideas! They seem to have endless square bar for metal stock in various small sizes under half or so inch. I saw some flat bar and maybe a bit of round bar. Horse shoes available too, no rr spikes that I spotted at first glance. Thank you for your time and thoughts, Brent
  3. Ok so people have started ordering some knives from me and for the most part i have been comfortable with the orders as they are nothing fancy. However i just got one that i have never heard of before and wanted to know if anyone has any expierience with it. One of the guys I work with has asked me to make a 6" hunting knife from damascus, he wants to use some wood that he has lying around the house for his handle material but he wants it to be able to be removed. Like he wants to be able to just take that wood off if he wants and replace it with a different material or reshape it or change it out so its more comfortable in the left hand or the right. Im sure people have expierience but i have never seen something like this except for paracord wrap. I was always taught handles should not come off easy because if it happens while your using it it could be dangerous. Any thoughts?
  4. So I'm just starting out. I have a fire pot, just not sure how to set it up. I'd like to have a semi portable table rig. Any suggestions?
  5. As the title above says, I'm thinking about making a power hammer, for my AG Mech welding class. I don't really know anything about bulding one, but its what I want to do. I really don't know all the technical stuff about it, but would an air hammer be better over a mechanical one? Or vice versa? Whos got good plans to gather info from? It cannot be built off of purchased plans, but the designs can be based off of designs I'll probably have to make CAD diagram of it for my teacher.. Which would be easier to build, helve, mechanical, or air? I'd like to make an air hammer, to use in the shop, but what kind of pressure would I need? What kind of base, and area would I need? I have alot of questions, but I have until December 1st to have it in final stages of building.
