  1. round here you can set a bucket by the road and they will dump the mail in that. nice job 58.
  2. If it is as Das said, I would encourage you to rethink your stance. Most guys would fall all over themselves at a chance to get some formal training. I don't know you, your mom, or your relationship with her. As far as I can go is to say that showing yourself to responsible helpful and steadfast is the best first step to getting approval from your parents on anything. If she is not the type you can talk things out with, show her with your actions. If she sees you are serious in other areas of your life, (school, relationships, work, etc.) she would be more likely to believe you when you say you are serious with blacksmithing. I didn't mean to preach a sermon, but ya asked for it, so....
  3. Thanks guys. Really. They buried her last night, so all that is left is the healing. It can only go up from here, right?
  4. OK, yeah. Definitely most. I should clarify that although this is painful enough for me as any child's death might be, We are not particularly close with this family. We know each other pretty well, but have parted ways recently, and we have not been really tight. I have maybe seen this child 3 times. That being, the prayer is really needed for them, not me. I am saddened, but not, devastated. We are affected most directly by the honorary grandparents of the girl being very good friends of ours. Please don't pray for me , pray for the family of the girl with me. thanks a bunch
  5. Guys, I want to thank you all as usual for your prayers and tremendous support. We may be a motley bunch, but there are some real good folks here.
  6. I look forward to welcoming welcoming you to the swedish steel anvil club. Best anvils in the world, hands down.
  7. From what I hear, after waiting overnight the family has decided to bury her this afternoon. His will be done. All things work together for the good for those who love God. Hard to see how this could work out for the best, but His ways are higher than ours. Thanks for praying everyone.
  8. Yesterday afternoon the 2 year old little girl of a friend of ours was killed by a car backing out of their driveway. No fault of the driver, she ran behind the vehicle when it was moving and was too short to be seen. Her whole family was there and saw it happen. This may seem a bit whacked to a lot of ya'll, but today at 2:00 central time her family and friends are gathering to pray for a resurrection. We will be having 50ish folks over to our place to do the same. It may be out of the comfort zone of a lot of ya'll, but I invite you to join in prayer for the resurrection of this child. If you can not make the time to do it at 2:00 central with the rest of us, do it whenever you can. We serve the God of the living, and He who creates life can restore it. If it is His will, for whatever reasons we don't understand, that she should not be brought back, pray for healing in the family. This girl has 10 siblings, IIRC. They are a tight knit family and losing a member would be especially shaking. Also pray for the driver of the car, a close friend and next door neighbor to the family. She has got to be dealing with a lot of guilt. Thanks a bunch, Elijah Schminke, Alias TC2
  9. You could do like me and drop the holidays all together. Welcome to the forum, BTW. sounds like you'll fit in great.
  10. Well, you could at least keep it organized enough that you could walk through in the dark without taking surprise somersaults.
  11. gotta love your shop chris. I don't think you could take a pic of anything from any angle without the background being full of...clutter.
  12. Cthulhu. I had to look that one up.
  13. Nice job Das. I envy your sculpture skills big time.
  14. the fastest i run my 2x72 at is 4710 sfpm. it is nice to be able to run it slower too. a 3600rpm motor with a 1 inch triple groove to a 1-2-3 inch v-pulley and a 5 inch drive wheel gets you roughly 4579,2289,and 1497 sfpm, which is a good range of speed for most things.
  15. Welcome to the forum! Personally I would rather use a good angle grinder and some hi-qual files. with those to things you can get some decent bevels, you just need to learn the technique. besides, they are both tools every blacksmith needs to learn to be proficient with. not to say that grinder would not be handy for some stuff, but i would not put 130 quid into it. i see those around for 25 dollars fairly often. if you see one that cheap it couldn't hurt to pick it up, but 130 could be better spent IMHO.
