I don't "see" any. At a guess it would be on the downward leaf mounts on the center shelf. But it dosnt matter. Nice job, it looks great.
  2. Aus, that sounds like a large village. Looks like they covered about everything. Wow.
  3. All I could think was that I wanted to see a before rebound test. Over all the silliness, I don't think they did a thing to it. Other then ALL the dangerous stuff.
  4. Merry Christmas to the IFI family. And what Ian said.
  5. Is the transmission good? lol I need one.... Anyway what Biggun said. Then you get into the scrap art things to save......
  6. I understand. It's an idea to work towards. Very rarely do we start out or even find the tools we need to make things. "Making the tools to make the tools we need to make...." Your spear looks good to me. I haven't made one and if you were able to repurpose a wasted bit of something else into that then I'm all about it. Anyone's biggest downfall is saying " I can't." We here are all about how it Can be done. Just because you don't have the tools now dosnt mean you won't get or make them later. keep on forging, learning, and building skills. Don't get discouraged about something. Keep doing what you Can and working to improve on what you Could.
  7. I just watched a video last night where the guy made most all of the spear head from a long bar of stock so he didn't need tongs until once he was almost done. He didn't weld the socket. Just saying. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=B9jypAxXdkY Tho he uses a power hammer you could hammer it by hand and the tools he uses can be made.
  8. ID, That'd be nice to have around once you get it fixed up.
  9. Pretty sure it would be ok on this one but I think it would be better on one that I upset in the middle to give more stock for that area. I may try something like that on the next one.
  10. No doubt it would dampen it a bit at least. I did loop the ends of a leather strip on to each side to hold it after I was done. Still rang pretty well. I didn't really compare the sound from one tie off point to two. And I'd bet a central connection would be the best for the sound.
  11. I think that's what I'm Leaning towards but I think ultimately I will let my mother choose on this one. I'll bet she will like it hanging crooked too.
  12. Those are all nice looking Brazer. The trees look great on the rocks. Very cool.
  13. Robert, if I do another I think I will upset the center where I folded it over for more material to shape there and possibly punch a hole to try out. Other then that consensus is saying crooked.
  14. A heart shaped dinner bell made from some old tire irons. I did quench and harden it. Rings nicely. Only about 7" tall. Its a gift for my mother. She has always liked the triangle dinner bells so I thought I would make her one that is heart shaped. I'm debating exactly how I want to hang it. I'm torn between hanging it straight up with a tie at each of the top most parts of the heart, or hanging it crooked from one of the tops of the heart. Thoughts?
  15. No I don't bigb. A stand and a gas saver would both be nice. I honestly don't use the torch a whole lot. Usually I will clamp the workpiece in a vise and torch with one hand and bend with pliers with the other. On bigger things I have made a makeshift stand of sorts but nothing permanent. I don't know why I haven't yet.
  16. Thank you for the explanation Templehound. I would have thought it was just more exotic. There usually is more reason to the details of the work done by excellent craftsmen.
  17. Welcome aboard Joshua. I'm a bit south of Pittsburgh myself but I wouldn't doubt there are other blacksmiths in the Erie area.
  18. Not a bad idea. better then a fruitcake.
  19. Well that's a new one to me, giraffe shin bone. Should have enough for a whole lot of beautiful knives. as always, thanks for sharing your great work.
  20. If I'm understanding what you wrote, you probably wouldn't have to worry about the wood handle after getting the metal forge welded. It probably will have burned off by then. Or were you talking about electric welding? Or gas welding?
  21. Snow here in southwestern PA. fluctuates. Sometimes we get a lot, sometimes a little. Here it can snow a foot then warm up and rain and wipe it away to a muddy soupy mess, then maybe freeze, or just warm up a little. I remember one snow fall a few years ago where my brother and I had to trudge and dig our way down our road either end ( half mile each way) through 3 or more feet of snow cutting up all the fallen trees just so they could/would plow our road that wasn't touched for 2 days. My mother got her van stuck trying to go to work, and I got my truck stuck after pulling her out. My brother and I shoveled and winched it out the next morning. The power was also out for a week, and me having the only 4wd truck in the family at the time found the only local store that had a generator in the area to buy water and other supplies. I also remember a heavy snowfall as a kid where we built igloos out of 3 feet of snow, and they didn't plow the road for 3 days or so and I remember my mother complaining (being a nurse) that she Had to get to work. But as a kid that was Fun for me and my 2 brothers, playing in that much snow. Just before the end of our sled riding hills was usually barbed wire or jagger bushes and we survived lol. you learn how to duck and cover real fast. So yeah, more fun as a kid then an adult having to be places or take care of stuff.
  22. Wow nice work CT. Excellent work with the repurposing and styling. Love the chain upright. I bet that was fun to weld.
  23. Boo, it's never too late to heat it back up and wire brush it until it's out of your possession completely.
