  1. Oh I see, so it would sit On a round rivet forge and that's the access but someone turned it into a hanging hood and made the modification. Interesting.
  2. Hello Ted, sorry to hear about the health. Prayers for your improvement to be able to continue to share your knowledge and your story.
  3. Wow Beard, as a scrapologist, I'll say there are some fun things in that hopper! now my brain is sidetracked.
  4. That's a cute little bugger Aus. Yeah there are no regulations saying you can't make whatever you want, or to embellish something.
  5. Thanks Gergely. The dragonflies are something I can put together from parts that I can usually get more easily. Last time I was at the Re-Store I bought 25 butter knives( about all they had). Thanks JME. The hammer rack is made up of connecting rods on a vertical shaft stand on wheels. Has a pulley on top that holds some hardies.
  6. At work I got a kid that loved my initial scorpion sculpture. I got him this year for our secret Santa. Limit is $20. But I have to. So he is a lucky boy. I been happy since my OA torch has been going.
  7. Lol. Din din eh? Judging from the umbrella my owl might be a little chewy.
  8. But you did it. I'd say you are a good maker. Success isn't judged by the failures getting there, it's judged by your triumphs.
  9. Buzzkill that's a beaute! I haven't seen antiques as nice. Well done. Blaster Joe, gotta love multifunction nice pineapple twist.
  10. LOL I'm no expert at forging. I'm still learning A Lot. but I look forward to meeting you and if I have knowledge to share I'm glad to.
  11. I havnt seen an owl around my parts for years but my friend has them all over up in the mountains. hence he wants a sculpture too.
  12. I wonder what the hole in the side was for? perhaps someone vented their wood/coal burner into it?
  13. Hey Nice work Bearded Guy. I usually have some extra beers but it's byob ( bring your own bourbon ) I like rum better. Whisky and bourbon put me on the ground too quick. I look forward to the visit.
  14. Had to look up frogs mouth owls. Aus that would make for a cute sculpture. Thomas hope it wasn't a close encounter haha.
  15. I know what you mean. It's been crunch time for me on both sculptures And forging. If I have a good game plan going in it works a lot more smoothly.
  16. Thanks for the fun facts Glenn. They sound a bit bigger then I thought. Next one will be more menacing
  17. Thanks Andrew. Um, well, now that you mention that... I only gave him 3 toes perhaps I didn't look at enough references. Owls are really cool birds but I will admit that I don't know a whole lot about them. The reference I was looking at had the owl perched with 2 toes forward. All in all the new owner is thrilled with it and I can do better on the next one. Thanks Dcav.
  18. Thanks CT! The key is to start at the bottom and work your way up. Takes some eyeballing of where you will end up at, and just welding the top of each washer lets the next one up hide the weld a bit. Takes a bit of patience too lol.
  19. Cool, good you finally got it fired up. Now the fun starts
  20. With the rotor, the crack shouldn't be a problem but as Dave said you might want something more along the lines of 8" dia. And 2-3"deep. But what you have could be modified with some clay. But a better free rotor couldn't hurt. As far as pipe the Home Depot near me has 2" black pipe. Lowes didn't so if there is one near you it might be worth a look. There are always other options tho. Don't think yourself into a box.
  21. That's a beauty Lou. Yeah that would be a great price for one so clean.
  22. Thanks Darryl. Yup those are fork and spoon handles on lawnmower blades. The blades looked too plain on their own. The head is an assembly of a large bolt and nut through a bearing. The bolt/nut part is welded to the body and there is a cv axle? race welded to the outer of the bearing for welding the head parts to. The beak was just forged out round bar stock. You can make horned owls. It would be more exotic. Marc, my second look at that owl I noticed the crow.
  23. Here is a commissioned owl that was asked for a while ago and needed before Christmas. done and done. I thought about a mouse in it's claws but this one is good as is. Next one, since I have atleast 1 or 2 more to make. I only made 3 or 4 different sets of eyes for this guy. one I liked more but it didn't work out shape wise. his head is built off of a bearing and spins fully around. hopefully my photography is better but I messed it up again. I've spilled enough beers, and stomped enough bulbs tonight. Jeesh......next time.... enjoy.
