  1. Well I got his email from his website. I would rather buy one and have it right than have to fiddle around with making one. Thanks
  2. you know what, you are right. For example if someone puts their propane tank too close to their forge or barbecue and it catches on fire, you are not only at risk but so are the firemen who have to come and put out the fire. What happens is that when there is a propane tank on fire, the guy with the most experience crawls through the house and turns off the propane tank hoping that it doesn't explode. Also, that wood stove law is a little overtop. If they think they pollute, they might as well ban cars.
  3. Alright thank you! Frosty so you know how I was asking how I should cut the hole to make my burner at an angle. Well it turns out that Wayne told me that I just need to cut a regular hole, and since freon tanks are thin, I can just bend the mount to the angle I want. I will probobly cut that hole today. Thank you all very the help.
  4. Hello, I am looking to buy one of Larry zoellers burner flares since I have heard great things about them. I contacted him a couple weeks ago, and haven't heard back from him. I have also heard of other people having issues contacting him. Does anyone here have maybe his phone number or another email address? I am sure other places sell flares, so if I can't get in touch, it's not the end of the world. Thanks
  5. Man they are making everything illegal nowadays. Next it's going to be illegal to own a fireplace or wood stove becuase of "fire hazard". I understand rules and regulations to keep you safe, but there shouldn't be any laws. Let the user do at their own risk, as long as they aren't affecting, or will affect, anyone else.
  6. Well I finally started! This forge is going to be built from Wayne Coes plans. So I basically cut the d shape doors and cut the tank in half. You put it back together with door hinges so that it makes casting easier, and gives you the ability to pop out the pins of the hinges and then prop up the top of the forge with firebricks if more space is needed. The lines I cut weren't too straight since I was using a a handheld jig saw. We did draw out lines though. It also must have bent a little so it didn't line up properly, but I rebent it back and there's just a little gap. All that really matters though is that I get the casting level. So now what I need to do is cut the hole for the burner, which I am still debating which method to do. Then I got to get a handle, the hinges, and the burner mount welded to it. After that I need to line it and then make a stand. I will post pictures of that too. I am hoping to get this done before my spring break which is March 26, so that I can have a whole week of just forging. Tell me what you think!
  7. Nice looking stuff. That's te kind of stuff I am looking to make. Brazeal inspired. That's what I need to do, get a welder to weld the pipe for me. I will ask him to weld the hinges on too. Did you get the hinges welded and then knock out the pins to cast? How much did it cost you to get it welded too? Thanks
  8. Do you think that you can show me a picture of that homemade swage block and freon forge. Homemade swage block sounds interesting, and I am building a freon forge. Pictures would be a great help! Also, I like your set up. It is a nice sized work area. Thanks
  9. Nice work! Did you pick up a bit of techniques when you visited rthibeu? Also, did you grind the radius of the peen or form it with a swage. I know a lot of guys do it different ways.
  10. This thread will be very helpful I am sure in the near future for me.
  11. Nice! Once I find myself a striker and a good deal on H13, I hope to do the same.
  12. Also, do you have hinges on both sides or just one? I couldn't tell on waynes instructions, but maybe you understood better than me. Also, did you weld or screw them on? Thanks
  13. That's a nice opener! I'm not sure if that is your first, but is pretty darn good if it was. That is good even if it weren't your first!
  14. Nice! I love the twist on the bottle opener.
  15. Thank you so much for that! That helped me out a lot!
  16. Wow! That so a really good looking blade
  17. Yeah I agree. I remember many great shows that my brother and I used to watch. One of which was Mythbusters which is a mix between entertainment and educational. Good point with the news. There is so much more going around in the world than some of these "celebrities" lives. Anyway, FIF I watch mainly to see the guys shop as frosty said, and to see the blades created. I would never watch it for an educational purpose! That's what Steves book is for.
  18. Yeah your English is fine. You are probobly better than me. I am not the best with words.
  19. Oh ok that makes much more sense. I figured they must have let them temper sometime between the stages. Imagine how many guys are going to try and forge a knife, and only harden their blades since they don't show tempering on the show.
  20. This is how I priced the few things I sold. I calculated how much I wanted to make per hour. Say $20 per hour. I figure out how many hours, or fraction of an hour, it took me and multiply by 20. I then added in material costs such as coal/gas, forge lining, wax, sanding belts, saw blades, etc. You then also have to consider time to package your item, or gas to drive to the craft fair. Hope this helps you out some
  21. Alright thank you very much. That helped lots. So basically the only thing that gets welded is the burner mount. You then just slide the flare onto the burner. Then you cut through the refractory so that when you put in the burner with the attached flare, they will go into the forge. Now I think if I get this question answered, I will be all set and a whole lot more confident. It is that how would I make it so that the burner goes in the forge at a tangent level? If I just drill a regular hole, then the burner will be going straight down and not at an angle. Thank you all so very much. After this, I should be all set and the next time you will hear from me in the gas forge section should hopefully be the pictures of the finished forge. Thanks again
  22. Yeah. I have always been like that. I always have to understand something before I do it. Actually, I am building the T Burner, but using Wayne Coes forge build plans. His forge plans say just briefly to attach a flare. Your burner plans say you may or may not need a flare. I have yet to find something that goes into a bit more depth on how the flare is supposed to be attached. I'll figure it out. Also, if it were up to me, my forge and burner would have been built already. Unfortunately I have to wait until my dad will take me to the HVAC place and hardware store. I try to remind him but then he gets a little bit ticked, but eventually we will get there. Thanks for the help
  23. Yeah, I proof read twice but you wouldn't believe how easy it is to overlook such things. Gamer was meant to be hammer. There was actually a test on a tv show called Brain Games where they made you read a sign that said something like "Suzan was was going to the store. " Me and probobly tons of other people skipped over the second was and didn't even notice there were two. Oh course it was more easy to fall for then. That's what happens though. You skip so much of the grammatical errors in your own writing. That's why in school they tell you to let a friend proof read your writing since they would be able to pick out such things much easier. Well I went a bit on and on here, but I guess you guys get the point. Spell check too is terrible. It changes words before I even get to finish writing them. Anyways, sorry about that. I will try to pick look harder when I proof read. If your referring to my hammer, I think it's just the pics. It could be that the fullering that separates the cheeks from the faces maybe was made a bit crooked by accident, and that makes the faces appear crooked. As far as I can tell though on my hammer, I don't see it to be crooked. Hope this helps.
