  1. Sounds like a wonderful program and would be a shame to lose it, hope all goes well for the program and all that work hard to keep it.
  2. I started to call my shop Bad Creek Blacksmiths, since the creek that runs through town is Bad Creek. My wife didn't like the name, everything around here is Bad Creek this and that. Well ended going with Smashing Pumpkin forge, nothing to do with the punk band of the 80's. When building my shop I didn't know what color to paint the walls. I got tired of the yellows, blues and such so asked a friends wife and she picked out an orange. Never in a million years would I have painted it orange, but it looked great. This was close to halloween and the big thing for kids to do is smash pumpkins, hence the name of my shop.
  3. Thanks Dan, I like it might have to try it some time and add it to a project.
  4. John I meant when I first started forging but thanks for the encouraging words. I really enjoy the time spent in the shop with or without my sons.
  5. Excellent I doubt if I could do that good of a job, keep up the good work and keep sharing. Paul
  6. Beth, thats a great idea starting a kids section. I want to Thank everyone for taking the time to comment on his hook and on the encouraging words to my son.
  7. Tom, Trouble doesn't find him, He finds TROUBLE!!!!
  8. Tom, Glad to see you got home safe and sound I can see why you was plum tucker out. Hopefully you can get that forge fired up soon.
  9. Nice fence, like the farm scene. Was that cut with a CNC?
  10. My 9 yr. old son made this S-hook at our Hammer-in this past weekend with little assistance from dad. He saw that I posted my project and wanted his project posted to. He is very artistic and imaginative in drawing and clay modeling along with Blacksmithing, its about the only thing he doesn't get bored with. He thinks its neat that you can communicate with people across the pond, and is always asking me when I'm reading posts where are they from. So please respond and let us know where your from.
  11. I was close on time so I drilled the same diameter hole and did a blind weld, not sure if thats the type of weld, but sounds good to me. I did a brown finish using a acid bath, won't do that again to much mess. Thanks for the kind words, put in alot of effort to get this done on time and looking so every thing flowed together.
  12. Made these bookends for my regerstration peice. The gentlemen that won them is putting them to good use holding up some old bibles that belonged to his father. Cross is made from RR spike,I always wanted to wrap a rose around a cross but didn't want to make another knick knack. I saw some bookends from the Blacksmiths Journal and used some of that plan to incorporate into these bookends.
  13. Great demo easy to follow and to understand with the pictures. Thanks alot and keep the lessons coming.
  14. Nice looking hook! Whats with the store bought "S" hook? Go ahead and make yourself a "S" hook would look better.
  15. Hey Dave been watching your post to, Those hollow tube blower things you can find a blue print on anvilfire I believe, didn't check it out first. Some of the things I want to make are Bear claw, cross necklaces I like your idea on the leaf necklaces. With the candle holders do you think they would sell better if you had candles in them? Pop a candle in them and you have a finished product, you be amazed how many people can't imagine things that aren't finished. One night I sat down and went through all of my blacksmithing material to see what I needed to make for craft shows and wrote it all down, of course its out in the shop and can't remember it all. Good luck in selling need to pay for this hobby some how.
  16. If you don't know it already, remove tire from rim before welding. Just had a posting on here about the dangers of welding with the tire on the rim. Very lethal to do, good information I didn't know the dangers but made sense after seeing videos.
  17. Phil, Think I heard that excuse last week! That cold must be kicking your hind end!!!!
  18. Welder 19, You are on the list, I'll be praying every day for you and your family. I've been there and know how it feels. I'm going to give you some advice and please use it... first off write a hardship letter to social security, your attorney's should send it out just explain all your financial problems and ask them to speed up your claim. I did this and next thing I knew I was awarded my SS and didn't have to have a hearing. If you haven't applied for any kind of financial assistance through your county (food stamps, help with utilities, etc.) do so.....I know it's hard to do but you have to be humble and just do it. Remember you pay taxes which goes for this type of stuff. There is a lot of lazy people taking advantage of these programs that are perfectly healthy, so why shouldn't you receive money that you have payed in by working hard. Good luck and keep us informed. Paul
  19. Yep! Anyone traveling or visiting Northwest Ohio stop by always great to meet new people. Live 3hours from SOFA do you think I've ever made it there? NO!!!
  20. Nice table ! Like the vines and leaves.....Using them on a project always brings out the WOW factor. Keep up the good work. If you can resize the picture and re-post it would love to see the table all together as one piece.
  21. You can flip them over and use them for a post hole digger.
  22. My heart and prayers go out to you and your family in the loss of your son. My whole family is on the donation list.
  23. Don't put in the bathroom I don't know what building codes you have but I bet it similar to Ohio's. First of all you are going into a commercial Building That falls under State building inspections. Besides that a State certified Architecture has to drawn plans then they have to be approved and a State building permit. To do any commercial plumbing in any State you have to be licensed. If you try to do it on the sly and get caught they will red flag the job and shut you down. I would check with the Building inspection office before I did any thing. Besides all that I agree with everyone else sounds like the landlord is making the better deal.
  24. Bob hope your feeling better and wish you a quick recovery. I haven't had a serious injury blacksmithing, but had a few working as a carpenter. The worst one was falling from scaffolding and landing flat footed on concrete,I think after 40yrs. old you splat instead of bounce. One week I was in the ER four days out of five. They wanted me to come in the day I missed to change my bandage but I was out of town.
  25. Okay hears the pictures of my set-up. 1. With ash gate closed 2. Fire pot 3"deep x 7"wide x 12"long 3. This is showing the blower pipe coming into the vertical pipe. 4. Showing ash dump open. These pictures don't show the ash dump to clearly but you can make it open and close any way you want. The only change I want to do is put in a air gate the fire tends to get a little to big and I'm just burning up to much coal. For the tee on the tyure we stub out a 3"length of pipe for the blower pipe to clamp to.
