  1. I'm still in the process of making presents, every time I turn around I need to make a jig or a new tool. Good luck and Merry Christmas
  2. Tim, Do Not cut up that trailer hitch, it's worth more the way it is. If you don't have a Camping trailer sell it and go get some forging tools you may need. Just in case you didn't know this information. Have fun forging!!!
  3. Welcome to the site glad to have you. Go to the top of the page and click on user cp and fill in your location, that way if you need additional help we might know someone in your area that can.
  4. Fish, Welcome glad to have you. Is there a club in your area that you can get involved with, if you don't know look at the ABANA web site under affilate members to find out. There isn't one blacksmith I haven't talked to that won't help you out, all a bunch of good people.
  5. Vent less propane wall heater from TSC. Gets to hot have to turn the thing off, shop is 12'x24', probably could've went with a Buddy heater.
  6. Heat with Natural gas...It's safer than the Great White Brick, oops Birch!!!!
  7. There is a product called skunk off, you can buy it at the vets office. We use this when our coon hounds get tangled with a skunk.
  8. Thanks, exactly what I was looking at just wasn't sure. In your pictures the horse head looks brown does the sealer make that happen or did you use a patina? We'll get this figured out some time. Thanks again for your help.
  9. Nice bells!! I got to get over to the Vocational High school they will cut out the bells for me on their CNC and won't cost a dime just need to furnish material. I think I should of started making Christmas Presents in June. Need to make tooling before project.

  11. FieryFurnace was at Walmart all I saw was clear spray acrylic in a blue and white can. Can you please find out what exactly what it is. I really like this finish.
  12. Last night I was welding 1/4" x 1" mild steel with a 6011 rod, First time using this rod well on one weld the rod was glowing red. I would like some info on what was I doing wrong. I'm not a expert welder!!!!
  13. IT'S 19 F here this morning 50% chance of snow, thats calling it safe. Grant I don't know what kind of coolant your using but could you add RV anti-freeze to it so it won't freeze? Just a idea.
  14. Looks great, been wanting to try this for a while. I like the finish how did you do it?
  15. If you know a farrier ask them for their old rasp, its a good way to remove some metal fast. If you don't know any farriers you can ask at any horse stables who they use. They pitch those old rasp and they say there dull but their plenty sharp for us blacksmith.
  16. What Christian wouldn't like it? Looks very nice, I made cross necklaces last year for all my nieces and nephews and they like them. Had their friends ask where they got them from. Enjoy your time with your friends.
  17. Unkle spike I haven't made my mind up, I have had 3 HF grinders one lasted a year and the other two lasted a couple months. No I don't abuse my tools but I do use them. For the money I'm spending on HF's grinders I can buy quality tools that last and have a better warranty.
  18. What brand of angle grinder do you like? Need to buy a new one and I'm not buying a HF angle grinder.
  19. Thank you for sharing the beautiful work that your grandfather did. His work really shows his passion for metal work and the ships he built. You do have something very special and if you can ask other family members about the art that your grandfather created. I don't like calling those ships work because the attention to detail shows that he really enjoyed what he was doing. A true artist.
  20. I made mine out of mild steel and made them with a double tine so food will not spin. I like using olive oil for a finish. Will try to get picture posted later today.
  21. I'm going to have to forge some to show at church. Usually you don't think of this around this time of year, but it is a good project. Makes you think what humans went through back in that time period. Thanks for showing us.
  22. All good idea's how about the swan business card holder on Anvil fire BP's. Good luck with the lady!!!!
