  1. Crosspein since he was a blacksmith do you think he built the fence around the grave site? Be interesting to see what else you can find buried around your shop...know anyone with a metal detector?
  2. I like it with out the pickets... Keeps it open and uncluttered, with the pickets its to busy. Great job Looks great.
  3. My fire pot is made out of 3/8" plate, we cut a 3" hole in the bottom for the pipe and tee'd off of that for the blower pipe. I felt it was to deep so we brought the pipe up a 1" or so, and I used refactory cement in the bottom to level it out. I bought the cement at a brick yard and it is made for the high temps. .I don't have any pictures of that set up but if you would like to see some PM me and I'll post some. The grate I used I bought from Centaur Forge and every thing is holding up great.
  4. Nice looking candle holder, even with the paint on it sure she liked it alot.
  5. Started reading this my son came in and started reading to him......We both were laughing with tears running down our face.
  6. Google how to make brooms, and go to mother earth it has good instructions on how to sew your own brooms. nice fireplace screen!
  7. If you want a hood thats over your forge I haven't seen any plans......there just built to suit you.
  8. Glen posted let's see your forge under the solid fuel forge forum there should be some good pictures of home forges...my firepot is made out of 3/8" plate steel and lined on the bottom only with refactory cement. Good luck!!! P.S. If you don't find anything there look under show me your shop in the general blacksmithing forum.
  9. Grizzley tools has a belt grinder for around 450.00
  10. Here's pictures and the plans of the forge I built, drafts really well easy to move around.... I stub a short peice of chimney pipe on the forge and then left a 1/2" gap between the stub and main chimney, and wrapped a piece of sheet metal around chimney where gap is and screwed it in place. This allows me to have the forge portable since I have limited space.
  11. Looks good to me, nothing is perfect when it's hand made and if you want perfection have one machined made. It's those little imperfections that make it yours and you are the only one that see's them....don't sweat the small stuff.
  12. Tom don't envy you a bit, I lived out in Wyoming for a while......There's a pretty girl behind every tree out there....Don't miss it a bit of coarse I lived in Cheyenne.
  13. Never had to build a counter top with copper.....but if we needed a adhesive we would always grab the silicon...Great Stuff!!!!!!
  14. IronWolf was looking for 4 1/2" grinder.... bought a Metabo I like it want to get some more
  15. Great job, really nice looking forge... another suggestion wire a switch where its handy to get at...to a outlet and plug blower into that....this way you don't have to reach under forge to turn on/off blower.
  16. I would lay fire brick on the top shelf .....and cut hole smaller to help support firepot. I think it's a great idea it simlar to what I built without the hassle. I also took a mason blade that fit into the grinder and cut the brick so the firepot sat flush with the top of the brick. good luck.
  17. I know on my blower the fan tighten itself up on the shaft to the back fan cover and wouldn't turn...... so try taking fan off and see if it turns.
  18. My sons started at 8 and 12 that was last year, still smithing and they also demo.
  19. Yes the big pictures are annoying ......but you can use other programs to resize them ie..... paint, probably any program that deals with pictures. I know when I click on a picture in the album it has in the tool bar a spot that says other programs...that what you want to click on and then find out where to resize your pictures... hope this helps I'm not a expert computer person usually know enough to get myself into trouble... I figured out how to resize pictures by myself so anyone should be able to. Nice candle holders and I also enjoy making them also.
  20. Have a great time with your friends and enjoy forging!
  21. All forge welds, I did okay at a friends house but come back home and can't weld a thing. Always resort to the wire welder.
  22. Will keep you posted Feb. 6 we have a open forge in Wakeman, Oh. its posted on our web site www.nob-blacksmiths.org . The web site usally keeps you up to date on meetings and open forges, but is behind in every thing else. We have alot of members that belong to MABA both groups are great and has a bunch of good people. Keep the fire burning and the iron hot.
  23. Working the metal to cold, I did the same thing when I first started out. By the way leaf looks real nice, try not bringing the stem to small either and stick back in the fire when it turns to a orange color. Might take a few more heats but its better than have a leaf snap off. Good Luck and let us know how it turns out.
  24. Send a PM to me to please I would like the info. Thanks! I don't care how much it cost, each touch mark is going to be different cost. I would like to know where you got it from.
