  1. Very nice work. Your roses are beautiful!! Love the wine holder!
  2. Happy always puts money in the wallet. Nice looking hooks!
  3. Sorry I haven't got back to you sooner. Hope you made it through the Tornado safe! The finish is what they call patina green antique finish. It has ammonium chloride in it as well as copper sulfate. After it dried I used my torch and moved it around the rose. I wasn't quit sure how it was going to turn out but I was happy with the results. You can get the solution at a craft store under the name sophisticated finishes.
  4. Great work Stephanie! Copper seems to have this certain glow when you work with it. Lots of great ideas about different finishes. Keep showing your great work!!
  5. If you ever want to get into electroplating check out Rio Grande. I bought my electroplating supplies from them. Before you plate steel you would half to pre plate with copper to prevent rusting, then it's plated nickel. Plating stainless is possible but you need a special solution before you can plate it, basically another step. It's really not complicated to electroplate and with a small investment you could be plating, gold, silver, rhodium, copper and nickel.
  6. Very nice!! I bet it would be fun cooking with that spit. The talk of the campground!
  7. I thought I would try something creative. My stepson is a manager of a bar 3 BBQ in Bozeman MT. On my visit this last February I thought it would be cool if he had a branding iron for his restaurant to hang on his wall. This is what I came up with. It is 17 inches long, 14 inches tall when the handle is up. The brand itself is 5 1/2 inches in diameter. It's all made with mild steel. 1/4 inch square and 1/8 inch flat 3/4 inch wide. I made it so the handle moves up to brand and down to hang on the wall. It was all formed using my forge and welded with a wire welder. I made rivets from nails for the handle and to join the circle.
  8. I finally had a chance to work with some of the stainless. Heated it to a yellow color, which seemed to heat up quicker than mild. It did work a little harder but I managed to get the job done. When I was tapering the end I did have a problem with the tip splitting. Overall I believe my experience was a good one. Thanks everyone for the great information.
  9. A house number on it would also be nice. Beautiful scrolls!
  10. Very nice!! There's nothing any better than a hand crafted bottler opener opening a home brewed beer. Cheers!
  11. Very nice!! Practice makes perfect! Or should I say practice makes things easier!
  12. Nice gate!! How long did it take to make it?
  13. I like the leaves. What type of metal did you start with?
  14. I'm making plant holders that hang over a window. Using 3/8 square and round. They will be 16" & 18" long. I'll be selling them at the farmers market. There very easy to make. Scan the forum there are lots of great ideas!
  15. It is very enjoyable. Keep up the good work. There are many projects and items you can make with lots of good information.
  16. I love the heart! It's on my list of things to make! Thanks for showing!
  17. Sorry I forgot to mention what type of stainless it is. I believe it's 303 stainless. Thanks everyone for giving advise.
  18. I just bought some 1/4 round and square stainless steel that I want to forge into bracelets and serving spoon handles. Is there any advice to what the temperature/color to the metal you must heat it to work with. Thanks, Paul
  19. I know some of this is wood but my daughter wanted something to hang a few necklaces and dangle earrings on , so I came up with this idea. I forged hooks out of some old square nails that I found at a old cellar hole. I made a couple larger ones out of 1/4" square stock and I used a 1/4 round for the earring bar across the top. I used some scrap wood to make the frame. She wanted something small and something to hang on the wall.
  20. I finally had a chance to make a copper rose. My mothers 82 birthday was today so I presented my first rose to her. I gave it a antique finish.
  21. Great work! Beautiful detail! Would you be selling them? Putting a price on that type of work would be a challenge.
  22. I would use a combination of copper, brass and steel. You can treat the metals anyway you feel like. Heating the copper and brass with a torch can give it a nice effect. Look on you tube on copper flowers and leaves and see what other people are making. Lot of good ideas!
