  1. It isnt that hard to make it, there are directions on IFI on how to
  2. Dont forget iron by itself was not more usable than bronze, it was not until steel was created that anyone had a good use for iron, Raw iron is too soft for most uses and then there is the problem of rusting...
  3. I got my eyes examined in October and paid them $450 for exam and new safety glasses, I am still waiting for them, and I have delt with this place for 25 years,CV19 is slowing everything down

  7. When I started to build my new shop 13 or so years ago, I had already established a relationship with the local code inspector to prevent surprises with fire codes and such. But I found out the hard way he retired before I finished, when the new guy showed up for the final inspection. I was scared, but the first words out of his mouth were, Wow a side draft forge.... it turned out he was an apprentice smith when younger. so he understood what was a fire risk and what was not, It passed just fine.
  8. You mean like in the knife making 200 classes? Why bother posting them again when you didnt read those where they are, and they have been there for a few years
  9. had my electrical license over 35 years, and never saw 150 VAC provided in the USA or anywhere maybe I need to get out more
  10. sections traditionally have been created when there is enough material to separate from the existing body, also where would it go? decorations are made of different material than blades. I have the time to pull them out of you think there is a need, but since they are already all over the place it will take a while to get the posts moved to the new section
  11. I am grateful for the recommendation of my book, but I think the fist book is a better primer for pattern welded blades, the second book is as it states, more advanced studies and assumes a reasonable base of knowledge to work from
  12. Why is it insane? we have threads much older still active on here
  13. When you get around to uploading them, load them in this thread and I will move them to the intro post to keep things easy to follow
  14. You also need to keep in mind that paint wears off, and when you acquire too many types of steel to remember them all, you need to mark them in a way that it stays marked a few years from now when you find it again. I suggest using a fine tip in your Dremel tool to engrave the end of bars with the ANSI numbers, they do not wear off yet are shallow enough that a fast run over the sander will remove them from the finished work. I brush my engravings with soap stone to make them more readable
  15. It will wear off sooner rather than later with either oxides or paint
  16. mokume isnt exactly what most people think of as forge welding
  17. IIRC that runs at 60% which is better than not running
  18. one of the things we teach is walking with both legs rather than the normal push off with rear, but adding the pull with the front leg is weird on ice
  19. He never listed what type of steel or even what area, hard to give a meaningful answer, we cant give a detailed answer when there was not a detailed question
  20. what does the power source of the oven have to do with tempering colors? you appear to have just said its because its electric
