  1. Hole in he ground forge, charcoal fuel and you should be hammering hot iron before Friday!
  2. I have 3 anvils with 1.5" hardy holes. I drop sq tubing in with the diagonals cut and folded out into tabs.
  3. Quiet anvils should be quiet. Saying it's low quality is like saying your diesel car is low quality because it's not running on gas....sure it has 300000 miles on it and running fine....
  4. 50 minutes? We drive farther to get a coffee out here!
  5. Loved working with the University: You owe us: 30 days and we will hassle you every day for it. We owe you; 180 days and don't bother talking to us....Small college, small town, small state----What do you mean the State Senator is on your speed dial!!!!!!!!!!! ==>$$$$$$
  6. I have a flat plate with an angle iron welded across the bottom. Drill hole right next to the dependent leg. Place in post vise. Spike goes down hole and gets trapped by angle iron/vise jaw. Wrap spiral on top then heat and "expand".
  7. I'm not in pain or depressed; Medicare should be taking care of bills. Things could be a LOT worse! (Mod 42 is this OK? I think I have a way around the points that never expire....I'm going to ask Samuel Yellin for a "magic eraser" when I meet him face to face....)
  8. I'm really hitting the protein right now; as I expect that Chemo will be rough and want to build up for it....guilting for chocolate too. Eggnog, rum to look forward to at home along with wood stove and NO ALARMS! Hey I'm most likely to get to 66 if not 666!
  9. Incurable brain cancer can help with hoarding instincts. I don't recommend it though.
  10. Breakfast: 2 pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, grapes, hot tea; english muffin. All easy to chew and not completely tasteless. We brought our favorite seasoning mix with us so the eggs get "normalized". I was surprised at how well the sausage tastes. Dinner was meatloaf, gravy, mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. Steak tonight! Mashed potatoes and gravy helps slide stuff down well.
  11. Hospital bed ugh. Ceiling double ugh. Planning escape to get a meal for my 66 birthday and a few days at home to run the heat up before the storms....Alarms very annoying. If they are not going to address the issues; why alarm them
  12. All metal shop building; dedicated 200 amp service; Vulture Zapper?????????
  13. 6.4 cm Glioblstoma brain tumor. First operation the day they found it; gamma ray knife radiation therapy 15 sessions; then, CHEMO----oh joy! At least they are trying to fatten me up....ahead of time.
  14. Be able to find/use matches in the Dark too!
  15. You want to argue with me about Brain Issues right now? Just had Gamma ray knife treatment on my Brain Tumor!
  16. More likely 2 months. Time to start sorting; gotta hide all the books from JHCC!
  17. Why I have anvil stands in a variety of heights. Blasted 6'4" students are a pain though....
  18. Well since you live out here I'd WEIGH IT and depending on condition; ask US$1+ per pound. If you live in the UK it will be cheaper and more expensive in Australia. " I have a used car; what's it worth?"
  19. I use Borax' especially for alloys that are bad about gas absorption, (copper++, silver, bronze) also powdered charcoal layer to help deOx. Have you read the Gingery Books? Another radiation treatment and not even a nifty Scar on my forehead.....grumble...
  20. Mother in Laws and weapons-----BRAVE MAN! Still flat on my back in a hospital bed; though just spent a few minutes fighting with a Gamma Ray Knife....
  21. Teaching in winter I try to demo a contact quench in vise. Clamp a hot blade in and then open the vise, then open and let the pieces fall to the ground...
  22. just remember: " Appears on the albums Dangerous Heroes (1995) and Owlflight (2000). Michael's material is available from Firebird Arts and Music. Monster in My Head Words and music by Michael Longcor, 1994 Copyright 2000 by High Flight Arts & Letters But there's a monster in my head. There's a monster in my head. There's a monster in my head, And he thinks it's lots of fun 'Cause there's a monster in my head. There's a monster in my head. There's a monster in my head, And he don't see nothing wrong. If I'm quiet as a spirit It won't know that I'm here with it If it knows I'm here it makes me go away I don't like the things we're seeing I don't like the thing we're being I can't stop us and I know I'll have to pay. Not the monster in my head.) There's a monster in my head. There's a monster in my head, And it wants to go and play. But there's a monster in my head. There's a monster in my head. I've got a monster in my head. And it's having all the fun. There's a monster in my head There's a monster in my head We've all got monsters in our heads. And the monsters, they keep havin' all the fun. (They keep changing time spans on my prognosisi; big meeting tomorrow to discuss stuff..)
  23. We're due a nasty storm. I hope the Hospital has tried out their diesel system. Wife has stocked up on iron rations for me and some goodies as well. Vienna sausages, crackers, cheese, Hopefully we can hide out here and avoid the 100 miles in wind and storm and nasty! My minions swept our chimney at home and wife had bought a spare cord of firewood. Looking forward to being home again!
  24. Yes "refining a weld" is a well known help. Lots of V swage improvisations are possible. Welded angle iron for instance. Large rack and pinion gearing. You can forge your own too.
