I agree the wire is too small to stack
I do quarters and they are hard to stack
Do sheet and clean super clean or do quarters and dont bother to clean.
Welcome
Lets see some pictures
When ABANA had there conference in Richmond in 2008 there was talk there wasnt many active groups near there. I see Jeff Farmer who teaches at Brea (SP) college several times a year at various events.
Most of the wear is going to be on the part that gets struck. When properly used the material you are forging will be hot or if doing noferous at least anealed but the struck end takes a pbeating over time.
I have used plow lathe, grader blade and mild steel as the guilitene as I have used several types over the years and it all works.
That was old footage. A well known person in the blacksmith community used to shoot at every event until the world anvil shoot a few years ago and it went off too soon and it cost him part of one hand.
It depends on a lot of factors, zoning what type work how friendly the neighbor coal, gas, charcoal extra. Geo Dixon started in his basement using an Ocy acet torch.
depends on what you are going to use the end of the track for.
try t that way with wet sand on top of the plywood plug around the standing track to see if it will do what you need it to do
I think it would depend on the quality of the damascus. If it is barely held together it may delam if it is solid welds it should not be a problem. I have seen knives bent to a 90 and they stayed in one piece. Are you buying the steel or making yourself? If making yourself give it a try If buying the steel it depends on how deep your pockets are with $$$ good luck anyway and show us pictures of the finished product.
Class rings are normally made by specific companies such as Johnson's
Contact them and see what is offered
Ask someone at the school to see where they order you schools's rings from.
Mokume rings are nice but may not be offered as a class ring as they are ussually cast
At SOFA last week I bought a box bellows I will try to take some lifts. It is double acting meaning it gives air on the push and pull. The plunged seal is made with feathers
Cold cutting RR rail
This is how I was told it was done year ago.
The rail was spiked down to ties the rail was scored all around where the cut was to be.
Jacks were uses to apply pressure then with hot rail from the sun or a torch ice was applied and the rail would brake at the cut line.
spent most of the day unloading from the Minnesota conference and loading for SOFA
We leave 5 am Wed trying to arrive to set up the tent before dark
couple hundred people there wed night but of course the conference dont start till Friday night but by Saturday morning some of the nice things may have sold a couple of times or more with a higher price each tiime.
Last year was the time to buy anvils as the guy from New Mexico or somewhere near there was not there buying anvils by the trailer load(s)
Only bringing the UMBA video library to sell (hint bring your list of what you already got so you dont get the same ones again)
Only bringing one bicycle anvil this trip saving space to buy more stuff
