  1. This is a broad topic however suffice to say not all belts are created equal. I was fortunate enough to have been gifted a number of different high end belt types by John Emmerling a couple of years ago. This started a quest to find decent belts. I live on the southern side of the dark continent but still I've been able to source really high grade ceramic belts and haven't looked back.
  2. I recon gears too..... think machine ooh yes! So many possibilities!
  3. Great looking scrap pile! BTW. Don't you guys use isoboard or similar under the corrugated sheets? A us, has there been historic mining in your area? Sorry I'm somewhat ignorant wrt. Australia (I suppose not just Australia, before somebody points it out)
  4. Very interesting, just I thought I'm currently aghast at just how expensive 't' shirts have become so just how expensive will they be when made with diamond encrusted nanofibers?
  5. Well Asus, your pictures are always appreciated, so much to see when enlarged and always appreciated. I treat them like where's Wally pictures "the more you look the more you see" like your Ute in previous pictures of your BBQ etc. This time of year must really be hot so I bet your body takes a hammering too? well treat youdelf to an extra mince pie and have fun, post more pictures of junk piles etc. Please.
  6. I've found that they are a great conversation starter, other than that I'm stumped.
  7. Marc , I was referring to the bulldozers, tractors, steam engines etc. Ect. That Ausfire was referring to. Alas my shop and outbuildings are only about 550sqm fortunatly they are full of smithing equipment.winch my wife albeit sometimes reluctantly accepts Grin. @Ausfire, boy that's quite a setup you have there, just the place for a smithy, is there a local blacksmith?
  8. Sheesh Ausfire, my wife gives me gears over 2 itsy bitsy lil ol bobcats and a mini digger that I don't really need but don't want to sell never mind 120 odd "toys" what's the secret?
  9. That is a stunning looking piece! A quick question about the scales, a friend gave me 2 Giraffe femurs (massive chunks of bone) but I have no idea of how to treat them, would you be amenable to giving me advice?
  10. Frosty, are you sure that you're not just jealous of their display of" skill and artistry" ? besides that Anvil "looked good" and that's wot really count, ain't it ? What I find quite fascinating is somebody arrives in their car and parks it close to where a couple of palookas are mucking about with burning oil?
  11. That is a nice looking machine! My only comment would be that Aluminium oxide is I poor choice for a belt ceramic belts will perform much better with less strain on your machine, your profile doesn't give your location but if you are able to source Trizac belts(from 3M) they are brilliant. Ian
  12. A blessed and merry Christmas to everyone, their families and loved ones ! Any may your new year bring you more joy and good fortune than I would wish upon myself
  13. Greetings Jim, my wife and I visited Michigan in August 2012 and the weather was fantastic but then my mother in the UK remembers the " dry spell" of 2005 and she's quite sure that it was a Wednesday afternoon
  14. You know the wind regularly comes from a predictable direction if they look like the attached image However your forge would become more efficient if you put it in a 1/4 drum ie. 44gal halved anb then halved in the opposite direction
  15. Frosty, You take the fun out of it when you make it too easy. ! Beats , so have you gone with the 1" option?
  16. Huh, are you sure? Thomas, I'm "home for the Holliday too, too warm here for cocoa though, mid to late 30's Celsius (my husky spends most of her day in the pool)so it's more like Grolsh or Heineken with the a/c on. BTW. Welcome Evaan and as you can see friendly folks from all over

Alan, you my friend have indeed lived an interesting and obviously blessed life
  18. When my wife and I visited Ric Furrer, she saw his snowplow next to the driveway,'' Don't even think of moving anywhere where one of those might de needed'" she said! That reminds me driving around this afternoon I realized my a/c needs re-gassing grin!
  19. I know some dogs slobber a lot but just how much would one need to baste your roasted whale? and I can't fathom a Welshman wailing, whining and whinging possibly but in a melodic fasion
  20. Alan , would you be so kind as to stick one of those round bits it the post for me? Nice score!
  21. Frosty, after I had used John E's original ribbon burner I was hooked and came home and stuck one in my "large forge " now there may be numerous reasons to change BUT.... if it works weld"l DON'T TRY TO FIX IT" applies. I now make and sell a few different styles of burner and a popular model is my Frosty blue goblin T burner (credit given where its due) I've started using the K.I.S.S. principle (totally against my nature) yet it works.
  22. Frosty is a star for developing and sharing his knowledge these burners are a definite "winner"
  23. Aw Frosty, isn't it in the nature of most blacksmiths to '"over-engineer " ? A shed 40 burnet should last a week ot two longer. Mikey this thread has been quite interesting, thanks for all the effort.
  24. Aw Frosty, that's schedule pipe ie. High pressure not structural tube
