  1. Wow, nice and I suppose fluxless to boot! You really are getting good at these John.
  2. Aw Frosty, there's a catch, try not to have a 'run' of them?
  3. Frosty is wiser than that it'll be under his shop, look for the "x" on the floor
  4. I'm glad that you're recovering and have kept your sense of humor! BTW. If folk ask say "I wanted a face lift, but I found out the hard way that e-bay wasn't really the right place to shop for a deal"
  5. Well SI(sorry I did not pick up a first name anywhere? ) It looks like a really nice shop that you have there. Also they say jealousy and/or envy makes you nasty, any I'm going a little green right now! Your work looks really high end( read Awesome) I wish that I had learnt to use my equipment as well as you seem to use yours. Thanks for sharing.
  6. Just wet it and let it stand overnight, BTW, kitty litter, it's cheap and one of the few products blacksmiths worldwide don't try to recycle!
  7. Welcome to the forum, it looks like you're off to a great start.
  8. Old rock crusher balls? As in ball mill balls? These are usually steels with a high manganese content and they are intended to self harden. I have a few , however I have been somewhat leery of putting a ball that's incredibly hard under a press or power hammer(call me a wuss for not wanting to catch a super hot cannon ball in the nether regions )
  9. Well this thread was started in 2010 so I guess that it's somewhat less than urgent truth be told I have been there in the "gap" and as I was there with my wife looking at the place wrt. My Stepson Dylan, (the one that slept in your 'new wing') when you so generously hosted us Alan. That time I wasn't concentrating on anything other than accommodation, tuition fees, books, fees , some pretty interior design shops, fees and er. did I mention fees? Anyhow thanks for the effort Alan! If nothing else I'm sure it'll move some of the cobwebs in my brain.
  10. All good and well, I know a fantastic place in Kuwait city as well? There seems to be no " buy 5 lengths and we deliver free to the southern tip of Africa "
  11. I'll second you on that Alan! I was wracking my brain trying to picture the location instead of just using my other brain cell to read my own post Twit!
  12. This is quite an old thread and to be honest I'd forgotten about it. I had meant to make an extruder, like for fun , I think I need to revisit the idea! Has anyone been to Cambridge and taken a picture?

    Locks

Shoot that's an amazing commission! How on earth did you price a job like that? Any pictures of the mechanism?
  14. Hi John, sorry to hear about the heart issues, what happened? I regret that I've been remiss in communication, I dropped my laptop and then had an issue with my service provider thereby losing my email address..... Total SNAFU.........

    I have a new email addresses ian214@live.com

I'm glad to see you posting and hope that you are going from strength to strength. Please send out love to that wonderful wife of yours.

Ps. You have to look after yourself what would Karen do if she didn't have you to worry and fuss over:)

  15. Wow John, that is really stunning! Sorry to hear about the ticker problem, I hope that you're up to speed again.
  16. I thought it was bad juju to attack a blue flagged (NATO) ship, but some YouTube items show sometimes they forget that.
  17. You obviously have missed out on Piccolino's in Amsterdam.
  18. Well Mikey, looks like you're just going to be : Super, Awesome, Dude! As opposed to your nemesis the: Silly, Attitude, Dude!
  19. Frosty , what I'm certain of is that a lamb shank is superior to a sheep shank when it comes to dinner time! FYI though you would use a sheep shank (knot) to shorten or protect a fray on a line that will stay in tension, "sort of fold the rope 3 times and pop a half hitch on each end! See clear as mud. seems like some of us had our minds elsewhere when our poor scoutmaster was teaching knots. FYI, a sheet bend is for tying two dissimilar thickness ropes together, ie. Loop thicker rope ,thin one goes through the hole, around the back of the trunk and back under itself.!
  20. Jup , also known as a truckers knot here . And yes it's a great Way to secure a load.
  21. I can't help with an anvil however my wife worked on a project there , beautiful place. How far from the black sea coast are you?
  22. This was an interesting thread, I certainly enjoyed it, I also enjoyed the 'insight ' into 'familiar strangers' lives any of the newbies or old familiars care to add?
  23. You don't actually have to retro engineer the plans! Get yourself a metric/imperial tape measure and WORK in metric. You will soon 'catch on'. you will be amazed at just how easy the metric system can be.
  24. Glenn, it may not be nearly as effective using COLD aluminum! albeit more humane.
  25. Those are more fillet/kobi steak than bacon and beans. nice work.
