  1. Just got this 6 - inch vise that originally came from the Tredegar Ironworks in Richmond, Virginia. The fellow I bought it from said his great grandfather had worked as a Blacksmith and a puddler in the foundry there and when the equipment was auctioned off in the 1950s, his father bought some of the blacksmith equipment including this vise and some tongs I also bought from him. I cannot find any marks on the vise yet, but haven’t cleaned it up and removed the paint to look closely either. Based on what I have read here and what i’ve Seen in the past, I am thinking it is pre-1900, maybe even around the civil war based upon the mount and hexagonal shapes on the vise legs. Screw is in great shape. Jaws are 6-inches. If you need more pics to help me figure about how old, let me know what you need. I realize this all best guess, but I appreciate any and all ideas, suggestions, and help.
  2. Perhaps you could reach out to Dan Boone the 7th. His shop is here in Virginia and he is an amazing smith. Nice man, too. Have watched a number of demos he’s done. Got one of his dragon headed letter openers at the ABANA Auction this year.
  3. Yes, sir. Love that workshop. Also the National Rail Museum in York. Oh, and I love the beam engines at the Water and Steam Museum at Kew Bridge.
  4. Some of the earliest rail - from Trevithicks Pennydaren Locomotive hauling slate in Wales in 1803 was like angle iron - the wheels were smooth and the rail had the flange! There is a model of the locomotive in the Science Museum in London, and they have a full scale replica in Cardiff at the National Museum of Wales. Really neat looking locomotive.
  5. I’d say it was a champion Midway blower. There was also a Lancaster, but they were generally marked Lancaster.
  6. Frosty, I thought Antonym made synonym rolls for Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz
  7. Love that horn. I’d put it back in service if i had it!
  8. Look at my profile pic. That one darted out in front of me while hiking.
  9. Hay Budden. Where in the world is it? Could you add your city state or country to the profile?
  10. Das, you could put something in one or two of the hands and leave the others grasping. Heck, it could even become a card holder with to of the arms and hands holding the bottom and the other two holding the sides.....
  11. I used a piece of steel reinforcing screen to make my sifter. It’s stiff enough to break up those pieces of coal that dont go through.
  12. Honestly I dont know. Ive traveled quite a bit for work, then helping my brother with some house issues, haven’t gotten back to the blowers. When I do, I’ll let you know
  13. Do you have anything other than a Facebook page? I don’t use any social media at all and I would like to see what you have and the pricing. Thanks.
  14. Look like the weights marks are 1-1-24 which would be 112 + 28 + 24 or 164 pounds. Does look like a nice anvil. How’s the rebound?
  15. Both the Tidewater Blacksmith Guild and the Central Virginia Blacksmith Guild are ABANA and still active - I’d use our friend, Google, to find their websites and send them an email. I wouldn’t worry about the dated webpages - neither one is real good at updating the webpage.
  16. Added to the list......
  17. Good job. Looks like a nice anvil!
  18. The only thing i know is that a friend of mine has one and i’d Love to have one to use!
  19. Those are the nicest things Ive never seen. Did you pick them up sight unseen?
  20. If you can find someone to share shipping (as in a couple of you have anvils shipped together), He’s got a flat rate of $500 USD for 1000 pounds on a pallet. I know two people whose anvils totaled right at 900 pounds, so they split the cost - $250 each. They also said they were able to get a better price than what was listed, depending on how long the anvil had been on the list. Have no idea how smooth the whole process was, but they did get the anvils.
  21. Mike Tanner at Yesteryear Forge uses a 1241 pound Reflinghaus
  22. Ive used the link belt that snaps together in whatever length you need.
