Thomas Dean
keeplokd, In Lorelie Sims' book "The Backyard Blacksmith" she tell of an old blacksmith she knew telling her that water from the slack tub will cure poison ivy...She told this to one of her friends that had a case of it and it DID work....might be worth a try. ThomasPowers
Looks like a heavy duty leafspring to me rather than part of a fork lift tine. Try to figure out things to make from it that don't involve changeing it's cross section much!---unless you have access to a largish powerhammer... irnsrgn
if you gonna be out in the woods or such and poision ivy bothers you, put some vinegar in a small bottle and use it as soon as possible to neutralize the poision ivy oil that gets on your skin and causes the problem. Thomas Dean
Good thought, also good for wasp stings. Course you'll smell like a pickle for a while;)
keeplokd
As for the Vinegar - mom always used cider vinegar for bad sunburn. We'd walk around the house smelling like it. The wife hates it, but its still the best remedy. In 37 yrs, I've NEVER had poison ivy/oak/etc. No chicken pox. nothin! I've crawled through more woods in the Eastern US than I care to think about. This is the first time - and by crackey... twice in a month! I'll look into the slack tub water. I'm assuming you use it TOPICALLY and not INTERNALLY. I ain't drinkin' that! ThomasPowers
Well one of the problems with poison ivy is that you develope an allergic reaction to it and so the more exposure the more likely you are to develop it and after developing it the more likely it is to get worse---allergies are like that. I took penicillian most every year growing up for strep throat---until the time I took it and broke out head to toe in hives. No more penicillian for me and I get to wear a tag warning folks not to give it to me by mistake.
Travis Covington
I was given a Champion 400 Blower and Forge today from an old peanut C0. The handle is broken off and it's been in several floods so I know I've got to rebuild it. The firepot is missing. It's a big forge probably 3' x 4'. The fire pot was around 12'' round. If anyone has a picture or info on a similar settup I would apreciate them. It also looks like it may have had a hinged hood or wind break. Finnr
Up date on the forge. Forgot to say I paid a hundred dollars for it. I also found a bit of interesting information. The casting on the gear case is identical to my Tiger so I dug a bit and found this site : OWWM It would seem that the forge came from Canedy Otto as part of their economy line.
