Davor
I've made a sign hanger for my shop and sign. The sign is temporary till I come up with something better, just wanted something to hang. Please post your signs and hangers also.
arkie
Very nice hanger! Now, cut out a silhouette of an anvil from heavy sheet metal and hang it from the hanger and you're done!
ThomasPowers
If you are interested in sign hangers may I commend to your attention the book: "Schöne Alte Wirtshaus Schilder" .
yesteryearforge
I like it Says it all No translation needed
Davor
Walking by it every day made me like it more and more. The old cracked wood makes it feel as it has been there for years. So I made a full brace and cutout the silhouette.
ThomasPowers
Collar the welds for an "older" look!
arkie
The cutout looks good! Now, make some rings out 1/4" round rod, overlap flat-tapered ends a little and you can heat with a propane or MAPP torch to close the ring. The stainless shackles look really out of place. Frosty
That's looking better all the time. I'm trying to come up with a way to back light it with an oil lamp but it's made to look at from both sides. Frosty The Lucky.
Davor
Thanks for the advice guys, good advice. The stainless shackles are really an eyesore.
Davor
Well I made links from some old rusty nails that looked about the right size and managed to close them cold. But I sure wish I found smaller ones because it was a pain in the butt to close it cold.
arkie
Much better on the rings!! I really like the way you wrapped the wood with the steel band. Very professional looking sign. Congratulations.
Deimos
Now that is improvement, really nice job you did there.

You got me thinking, so as I was making some tools today I made a hanger from some scrap pieces. It is riveted, with only the horizontal bar welded. I punched a squer hole and welded it fom the inside. Not exactly what you had in mind, but as I said it got me thinking.
anvil
Nice. Next forge a tenon on the horizontal bar. Also, think of changing your mouting hardware, or at least don't leave them brightwork. If you are serious about lighting you could use a string of led's. You could even inset them into the wood cutout.
Frosty
It looks nice, they go well together. Well done, Frosty The Lucky.
ThomasPowers
With 80 mph straight line winds not unknown in these parts I worry about side loads on the sign holder. Side struts to deal with such loads are used commonly in areas with a lot of winds.
swedefiddle
Good Morning, Reminds me of the 'Weather Rock'. A 500 lbs rock, hanging by a chain, in the weather. If it makes a shadow, it is Sunny. If it is wet, it is raining, If it is white, it is snowing. If it is swinging slightly, it is windy. If it is horizontal, it is a hurricane. If it is missing, DUCK!!!!!! Davor
I made a couple of plant hangers. A while ago just now saw them mounted.

You could stack cut 2 boards, put glass on each side and then put little LEDs between the two halves.
