I work as the curator of a historic village and do daily blacksmith demos for the visitors. Our promotions/advertising lady asked me one day to grab the hammer and a piece of steel for a photo. I didn't question why, and now I see that I am on the side of a Cairns City bus advertising the Village. If I had known she was going to do that with it, I would have grabbed the safety glasses and something more interesting than a lump of rebar!

Anyway, here it is:

That's awesome Aus!  You're really going places. Well, You never  know where a photo might end up so always make it a good one. Or I guess if you don't know it's being taken then you are doing your thing anyway.

 I had a guy from the newspaper want me to just grab a piece of cold steel and hammer on it for a picture. I had to explain that wouldn't work, so I fired up the forge and did it right. 

 

Now to grab a can of spraypaint and add *Confess!* to that picture...

I think you should get a Sharpy and draw safety glasses on all the city buses. And maybe big noses and mustaches too. Yeah, that's the ticket no point going part way. Oh okay, your nose is big enough now.

The hat... I love the hat, now I'm thinking about wearing my felt slouch hat when in the forge.

I just lost my hat of a dozen years, transferring between planes at Newark (NJ) airport last Friday. A lot of miles, a lot of memories.

However, its replacement arrived yesterday. Time to put some miles on this one.

Really cool with the bus, ope it helps get more visitors.

Yeah, it is rebar. As I recall it probably finished up as a rebar taipan. The position of the wheel arch of the bus is a bit unfortunate as it took out the main glow of the forge. And they have reversed the photo somehow too. That steel is in my left hand not the right. My right hand turns the blower and holds the hammer. I guess they wanted me looking into the ad and not away.

And the advertising certainly wasn't free, Frosty. Our PR lady thought it was better value than the static billboards we had on the highways.

I'm OK with it, but I think we could have generated a livelier bit of fire and glowing metal.
