In the purely utilitarian department, I wanted a bunch of heavy wire (from an election sign) S-hooks for hanging Christmas lights off the edge of my gutters. Improvised a bending fork with a pair of pliers and a C-clamp, bent the wire cold into a long sinuous curve, nicked each separation with a cold chisel, and used the same fork to snap off the hooks. Quick and dirty, fast and fun.

First hook following the first project from the book a blacksmithing primer.

as long as its got pants and a shirt it should be OK. no coat needed in my opinion.

Good pun; I'll sock that one away for later.

Probably lost in the great picture debacle; but there was once a picture of a hammer dressed in dolls clothes here...

Thanks Das, apparently it was good enough because I've been asked to make 3 more

An old fork lift tine. It was available. I'd like to get something better, but not sure when I'll be able to.

Always good when you get orders for more. :)

What are you using for an anvil omegabrock? Just curious.

We had a good discussion about the evolution of omegabrock's forklift tine anvil; check it out.

That's pretty good for first thing forged

I really like the double curl you did on the end of the hook. Adds a lot, I may have to do that some of mine if you don't mind.

So this is my first ever hook.

It is out of 12mm x 15mm, it was meant to have a heart at the top however I managed to burn the heart in the last heat.

Yup as you get tireder and the work gets smaller and the fire may be uneven due to clinker it's easy to mess up in the final stages.

I try to teach students that they should *STOP* before they make the uncorrectable mistake and finish another time, and recognizing that that mistake is getting close is part of experience.

Here is two hooks Das and I made the other night, mine on the left or top and his opposite depending how pic loads.

Das was good to meet you and we got to get together and forge again thanks

Yeh it was a clinker I hadn't noticed and put the tine too close and when I pulled out the metal I had lost it all.

So just adjusted and so that I now a new hook for the workshop and I will try the heart hook again tomorrow.

Getting right back in there is sometimes the best thing to do when your heart is broken.

Lol that is very true and it is all a learning experience.

Same here Jimmy. You are welcome back anytime.

Zeroclick, what Thomas said.  I relearn that lesson on occasion but less often now. :)
