jeremy k Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Here is a forged frog and lily pad I made recently. This combo hopped its way to a friend in Hawaii. The frog was forged on the end of 1"x1" square stock. The lily pad started as a half circle of 1/4" plate. Quote
ironwolfforgeca Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 thanks for the how to do that pic Jeremy K i will have to try that . making the lily pad is gonna be the hard part lol  Nice frog Quote
Buffalo Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Wow! This is really nice! The lily pad looks very realistic and your frog is really well done. Thank you for the progression picture as well, it is fun to see this come to life! Did you use hand punches or a press or power hammer to forge that little guy? Quote

jeremy k Posted August 11, 2013 Author Posted August 11, 2013 Just like roses - they've been done for years by others - I used hand punches while the stock was held in the vise. Quote
Rich Hale Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Gonna print this and take to shop;,,,,,,,,,gasp; Quote
Frosty Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 I really like it Jeremy but I don't dare let Deb see it or I'll have to make a pond's worth AND the pond. Thanks for the progress shots. Frosty The Lucky. Quote
bosox Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 That is really nice! That is such a superb art work. A very intricate type of job but you nailed it. You're really a master of forging. Quote

jeremy k Posted August 15, 2013 Author Posted August 15, 2013 In a day or so I'll be forging a lily pad for the story board pieces - I'll post a pic of them when I get them mounted to the lily pad. Quote
jeremy k Posted August 20, 2013 Author Posted August 20, 2013 Here's the making of the lily pad - not a big deal but process pics as ppl love pics. Along with the way the story pad will look when pieces are mounted. Quote
chichi Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Jeremy, Outstanding. There is,I believe, a fairly well known table made by a Smith over 20 years ago featuring the frog. It has a series of pieces emerging from the center of the table (under a glass top) and progressing to each corner. Each piece is a little more developed until the last piece in each corner is a fully developed frog.It grows from tadpole to full adult. I still remember seeing that one photo over 20 years later. I tried to find the steps to make the frog and never could. Your photos above are much appreciated. Did you make the table to which I refer? Quote
jeremy k Posted August 20, 2013 Author Posted August 20, 2013 chichi - Thank You.I seem to remember a table like you describe, I think it's in one of my books or magazines possibly. I was not the maker of that table though.Making these frogs is are good demonstrations of doing a forging with few tools, hammer and a vise. Quote
Camero68 Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Your frog on lily pad looks fantastic and adorable. It's a great and complicated design but you did it very well. Thanks for sharing the photos on the process. Quote
Bentiron1946 Posted September 7, 2013 Posted September 7, 2013 That's a nice lily pad and I like the way you take that block of steel, upset it and then set it free to be a frog like object, outstanding work! Quote
