Here's my third opener, and first try at an Aspery wizard.

Edit:  Did I do this wrong?  I don't see the picture I thought I uploaded.

Edit2: nevermind, I found that I had to click 'attach this file' after selecting it with the Browse button, followed by sleecting to add it to the post.

That's a beauty, D.  I hope it passes the exhaustive testing.

Finnaly got to work on some rail spikes to make some bottle openers.  This is the first one I made.  Took me about an hour useing a rosebud torch to heat my metal.  I cant wait to get my gas forge project started.

I posted some openers back on the second page of this thread but somehow managed to lose or destroy the image links, so here are some more.  I gave up on trying to sell any on Etsy as there is such a surplus of openers there that it is too easy to get lost in the mix.  Instead I get booth space at  local beer festivals and have had much more success with that venue.  I am certainly not getting rich selling bottle openers, but am taking in enough money to justify the effort.  Just for reference, I have been selling the Rubiks twist opener for $65.00 and sold three of them at the last show.

One thing that helped sales enormously is the ability to accept credit cards.  At beer festivals at least, most people don't carry a lot of cash.  Being able to accept cards really helps with those impulse buys.

Nice, Dragon!

Scotty, those are awsome. I could see why you should be able to sell bunches of 'em.

very cool scull for head on bottle opener, not something I have seen before.

That tab is neat too, did you just form the flattened circle and cut the tab, then shape?

That's a unique approach.....

I really like the skull opener, very dramatic features and people love things forged out of RR spikes. A little polish on the product and I believe you have a marketable item for sure. If you do sufficient product testing of course.

Well done Nomad.

thats what i did.  I just cut it hot and shapped it.  Not bad for my first opener i think.

steal all you want. i see a lot of things i want to try as well.  i just need to get my lp gas forge project going so i can work a little faster without using a torch.

I'd say you do.  Oxygen is quite a bit more expensive than air, no?

Have you decided on a forge design? There is a pretty large gas forge section here lots of plans available and performance evaluations.

Frosty The Lucky.

Frosty and BillyO,

I have an old LP Gas tank that is past its date.  Ive got some weld on hindges and latches.  just need to figure out the gas nozzle and instulation.  Ive been welding for 20 yrs now so i could make it out of anything.  Too bad i couldnt find an old trainer bomb that would make a sweet little forge.

BTW had some more fun today.  Designed my own makers mark to stamp on the side. And I think I upped myself.  I had an idea and went with it.  I think im going to call them Angry Openers.

They are awesome! I like the open jaws. (and i'm a little jealous of the skull touchmark!)

Glad you like it man. Thanks.   all i did was get an 8 in section of 1/2 in round bar.  took a die grinder and made the stamp.  Heated back to cherry red and quinched it in old oil.  Walla my own trade mark.  Im having fun.

Say Jim: When are you going to make a "skull" bottle opener like your Avatar? THAT would be a seller, you betcha!

Frosty The Lucky.

NOMAD, those are great- love the open mouth skull!

Consider that idea stolen as well.  :)

I agree too!!!  well, maybe not the touchmark part....

I'm still struggling to make a go of those wrought iron railway spikes. After several more tries I ALMOST got it. Picture is attached. All good until the last bit of shaping the loop. Grrrrrr.

But I have had some success with other openers made from more forgiving material than wrought. Here are a few of the latest attempts:

very nice man. i like those Rams heads.  I will have to try that sometime.

And I'll have to try the skull! What a great idea using the shape of the railway spike top. Good thinking, Nomad.

My first working bottle opener out of rebar, turn into multi tool with a blade on the end, not sharp just enough for like a letter opener or something. Gonna give this to my father in law for father's day.don't have a vise, this is my first twist just using tongs and channel locks.
