  1. Thanks JHCC, that is great! I am actually working on a wood project that could use it. It’s a good thing we are a resourceful bunch. I bet some plants wouldn’t mind.
  2. Due to strange times, I am out of work for the next few weeks. I believe I will find myself stripping scale off of older unfinished pieces and wondering what to do with the used vinegar. Anyone have ideas? BTW, everyone seems to be doing some great work keeping busy.
  3. Cool setup man. I am also putting together a kit to take camping. How heavy is the stump anvil?
  4. Been trying to do some smaller stuff and work on delicate hammer control. A couple more leafy shaped things and a quarter. A friend expressed interest in a railspike knife. I explained to him it ain't the best for a blade but he likes the novelty. He works for the railroad so I understand. All still need to be finished. Its been fun giving all these things away and telling people what the object used to be. I was at a party the other night and there was this really cool gear sculpture with a bell. Rang really nice.
  5. Great work! Those are sweet. I love candle light and those will provide a good amount. I keep seeing your candlelabra on the end of a staff walking through dark castle corridors. How would one go about the measurements to get all the legs even? That would be the most difficult for me. I like Frosty's idea of Jennifer's diamond for feet. Leaves would be nice too and probably easier. A gingko leaf would be a nice aesthetic that would provide good surface area as a foot.
  6. Congratulations Das! Good times! This grinder followed me home for $30 it is a major upgrade from the current hf grinder. Both were found on the local online.
  7. Spring must be coming! Everyone’s pumping out the work! Nice quadtopus Blueberry. What was your stock? I was thinking about trying one out. Das, those horseshoe hearts would be definite sellers out here in the west. CGL, it’s been fun watching you get better, and having fun! It’s an inspiration to get better myself. Jlp thank you for the advice, and your instructional videos. Nice simple step by steps. Very helpful! Unfortunately forge welding is not yet in my repertoire. Soon! Thomas, I was thinking something along those lines like a DNA double helix. Billybones thanks for the suggestion, I may combine the double helix idea with a wind chime of sorts. Did you forge out the cv housing into the bell? How big were you able to go? Got any pics? JHCC I do plan on making a bracelet for my love, I have a few more to take apart. And experiment. I was also thinking of drawing it out and cutting every other segment on one side and make a crown of sorts. I am still amazed at the production rate Alexandr keeps. I too think he has elves working for him. Or maybe bridge trolls.
  8. Bearing race; I remember you saying these were hardenable steel? What would you make out of them while taking advantage of the holes whether aesthetic or functional?
  9. My Loves Mother brought this home from a locally owned sporting goods store in Grand Junction. Remington .22 from the early 1900’s. Seems to be in pretty good shape. I think it’s got the original woodwork.
  10. I agree. For me, I think the ancient hunters who woke up hungry and did not eat until performing athletic feats trying to acquire food method works for me. The content and timing is very important no matter what advice is followed. This is critical. Anywho, I made a round leaf for the person supplying me the rail spikes and other railroad stuff. the leaf in the background was a fail. I think I burned it. A friend came into work to show me her repousse' and chasing bits.
  11. Mine is also on my back reminding me to drink water and eat. I tend to only have one meal these days and its usually dinner. Great advice Thomas And George. I will need to make these my business mantras.
  12. Made a wall hook and a jade leaf keychain for some friends in town. Only have pics for the belt knife and what I'm calling a Xenoleaf. (Alien Reference for the Xenomorph)
  13. I purchased a 4140 pin for about a dollar a # after shipping. I can message you the sellers info. They have all kinds of surplus known stock.
  14. "My best "survival knife" is the Swiss Arm Knife that sits in my pocket whenever I'm wearing pants" - Thomas Powers This thread is dedicated to the tools one carries on a daily. What do you carry and for what reasons?
  15. Beautiful clean work. It is always an inspiration seeing everyone's things. Getting that professional finish on the pieces really makes a difference and showcases the skill involved.
  16. Nice work. I am interested in your anvil! What is it? Looks like an old cathedral anvil.
  17. Mine will have a similar feature! Smithy will be moving opposite side of living spaces also invisible from any window. I will want to apply your gazinta technique once I take on my first arch or rail project.
  18. Interesting pivot. Have not seen that one yet. love the chamfered legs. It is not. I will need to use it a bit to figure the height I like. My setup will be moving to the other side of the house come spring. I will bury to the proper height then. I like the idea of an immovable object but will need to wait till work flow is realized.
  19. Just a stump. I plan on using a couple of L brackets to spike it into the ground if needed. Just put this together today.
  20. Nice solutions. I may be able to rig a removable hardy to the block anvil. But I have some 4” dia by 1/4” thick pipe that I want to weld under the plate as legs. Might be loud that way, Could fill with sand. Still have that 3/4” drive socket that could be welded to side of the block as well.
  21. I am amazed at how much quality work you pump out. Do you have days dedicated to a certain task? I.E. “tenon making day”, “carpentry day”.
  22. Thanks friends! The ornamental side of forging is my favorite in this journey thus far. Can be tricky thinking on how to create a shape sometimes so thank you for the info. I was thinking on this. Does anyone have triangular shaped peens or other oddly shaped hammers? Don't have one of those yet. Been web shopping though and they aren't out of range. Thanks for the kind complements.
  23. Hi everyone! Y’all been busy! Good stuff. I would like some pointers on a couple of things. 1. How would you put ridges on a leaf? removal, hot cut, forge? I filed the ridges in the pic. 2. How would you refine the striations in the round leaf? I used a cross peen but the corners of the peen leave the middle all rough. Maybe a light ball peen to smooth it out?
