Really nice Jennifer and love the pitch bowl John along with all of your repousse tools. Very inspirational both. -
My senior party chief retires Thursday after 42 years with the company so I made him a little surveyor. He is one of the best field surveyors I have ever had the pleasure to work with and will be sorely missed, irreplaceable really. thanks for looking

Mount that 88 pounder solid to a heavy stump and you have all you need to do some serious forging. Plus a hardy hole. -

I did my first real forging in my new shop. Not set up yet but I was able to forge and weld in swamp cooler comfort. Made a pair of campfire tongs fir a buddy as trade for a tool box. Lots of fun and turned out well 20x30 quonset hut garage with the 220 The dogs love the new neighbors… Thanks for looking These were the first 2 photos in the post above that i somehow deleted. Sorry I also tried a little repousse myself after seeing Johns super cool set up. Was going well until i split the nose. I knew I was pushing it and should have annealed -

What did I do wrong?
Rojo Pedro replied to Will Brouwers's topic in Hot Cuts, Anvil devils, metal cutting on the anvil.
I would not harden it at all. If done right you can make your cut without hammer / tool contact. If you mess up, it is easy to dress the tool and less hammer damage. My .02$ -
Curious as well- I have a 140# pile driver that my son in law has been dreaming up ways to make a trip hammer out of but I always assumed that the lack of rebound would make it unsuitable for anything except die stamping, maybe

Wouldn't the circumference be 22' or are you talking arc length? Not to be picky. I can't do math in my head and think in reverse polish notation :-) -

Where do I start reading?
Rojo Pedro replied to Kevin Nall's topic in Blacksmithing, General Discussion
Hi Kevin. Look up JABOD forge and improvised anvil threads. You can, and should start forging with very little or no money. From the very first hit on red hot steel I knew I was hooked but you may find its not for you for some weird and inexplicable reason :-) Have fun and be safe -

Nice work everyone. I found after a couple years of use that my favorite punch holds up much better after I hardened it. Sill gets red hot but seems to last way longer before dressing. Wouldn't annealing also normalize or do you need repeated cycles of cooling to normalize? Also I made a little statue from a half RR spike. Used said punch in the 1.5” thick base for the mortise and tenon join. Styled off something I saw on the web so I took some license here. I think it turned out pretty good and I call him ‘Loitering’ -

Super nice looking. Looks to have little wear. Have you forged on it yet? Would love to see more pictures. -
That little beauty should get top dollar to the collector I would think. If it were mine, I would have to forge something on it big time :-)

Very nice sign. Could it spin a tall tale?.. A-10s for me. My office is directly under the landing pattern at Davis Monthan AFB. Especially when the air show is in town I get the free show daily -

Making tongs for specific uses is why blacksmiths have so many tongs. 'You can't hit it if you can't hold it' Have fun and send pics -
