  1. Gotta love it, learn something new just about every day. https://www.google.com/search?q=backing+out+punches&client=firefox-b-1-d&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwi6o52WmdXgAhWG4FQKHaGGB9sQ_AUIDygC&biw=1138&bih=511
  2. In that photo, I can make out the cast in FISHER although it is rusted badly.
  3. Welcome to IFI I always suggest reading this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST Your A&H looks to be in very good shape, to see the serial number you can chip away the concrete covering it at the front foot under the horn.
  4. I also see 1916 on the front foot. A wire wheel on an angle grinder should clean the rust pretty well, just no grinding, milling or welding on the hardened face. Hammering hot steel will shine it up just fine.
  5. Ya done good and what a great tribute to your grandfather, I bet he is looking down and smiling. The only thing left to do is have a dram in his honor.
  6. I guess not because I have never heard of that before now. Love it when I learn something new here.
  7. Sorry to hear about your grandfather. Yep Iron City. I wouldn't do anything to it except a light brushing with BLO to preserve the patina and oil the screw then put it to work again.
  8. I believe the anvil pictured is a Fisher. Are you trying to sell the anvils? If so you need to read this.https://www.iforgeiron.com/topic/160-read-this-before-posting-the-rules-for-tailgating/
  9. In that case yes, it is a good stand alone knife steel. I've made several filet knives for friends from it and they love the edge holding capabilities of them. A lot of saw mill bandsaw blades are made from it. It is a carbon steel with nickle added.
  10. We still have no idea where in the world you are located. If you were near me I have extra kaowool you could have.
  11. Both are top tools, first is a hot cut with edge damage and the second one is a fuller.
  12. What is their return policy? I just read the reviews and would try and return it for a refund.
  13. It's been mentioned many times for making pattern welded blades. Welcome to IFI. I always suggest reading this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST
  14. Looking really good. Love the no smoking sign next to the forges. I would be a little concerned with the dragons breath from the propane forge affecting the electric forge blower control panel though.
  15. Welcome to IFI... we won't remember that once leaving this post, hence the suggestion to edit your profile to show location. I always suggest reading this to get the best out of the forum. READ THIS FIRST BTW, you might want to scroll down to Everything Else and check out the OZ Roll Call thread.
  16. Pictures of the forge would help with advice about a blower. WW2 forge doesn't say much about it or the fuel you are using. Don't be upset if your thread is moved to the proper sub-forum.
  17. I love those deals when I can find them. Just a note I see your description of the deal has been moderated for using unacceptable wording on a G rated forum. We all slip up at times.
  18. Congratulations on your find. Pretty sure the first number is a 2... that would put the weight at 256 pounds (close to the sellers guess). If it was a 3 the as forged weight would be 368 pounds. Your Mouse Hole looks to be in excellent shape, hope you have read about not doing any welding, milling or grinding on the hardened face. All it needs to shine is to have hot steel pounded on it. If you don't mind how much did it set you back? The last mouse Hole I looked at in my area would have left a huge hole in my wallet and it wasn't in as good as shape as yours.
  19. Hi Ted, Although we have never met when I saw your picture, I thought my goodness one of my officers (before I retired) could be your twin. He is a crusty old cuss and a more dependable and honest person I've never met. I'm pushing the 80 mark too (76) and I would rather wear out than rust, so just keep at it.
  20. My grandfather gave me this advice when he was teaching me something. "You were given one mouth two eyes and two ears, which means you should do twice as much looking and listening as talking".
