Neil, I believe I have been doing my own research. I have spent hours trying to find accurate information on the history of this anvil. The only credible leads I could find was A Book by RICHARD POSTMAN, _AMERICAN ANVIL Also the cost of the book is $380.00 to which I don't want to pay for a a very small snippet of this book. I was assuming that there might be some friendly folks that might give me some leads.

Greetings I have a Hay -BUDDEN ANVIL STAMPED 101 AT THE BOTTOM WHICH I ASSUME MEANS IT IS A 101 LB ANVIL AND 7478 STAMPED ON THE BASE UNDER THE HORN WHICH I UNDERSTAND IS THE SERIAL NUMBER. Is there any way to verify the date of this anvil without purchasing the American Anvil Book. I am looking to possibly sell or trade but a definite year of manf. would be very helpful. Thank You

Greetings, Recently I was cleaning out my garage and found and Hay-budden anvil stowed away in a Cubby hole between the wall studs. From more research found out this anvil was my grandfathers that my mom inherited after his death and now it is mine, Mom passed away also. My grandfather was an iron worker in the Bay Area (calif) over 65 years ago , and I have no idea about anvils and I seeking more information on a Hay-Budden anvil. On the front it has Hay-budden , Brooklyn new york stamped on it and lower it has the number that looks like 701 but probably are 101 and on lower left side there are numbers 7478 stamped . Any information anybody could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
