  1. I guess it just depends on what I'm going for. I've done polished and rough.
  2. Unfortunately, I don't know where it came from. A friend gave it to me. The copy I have is just a page with with advertisements on the back. There is a copy right, but if you contact them, I wouldn't be suprised if the are willing to give permission. I just noticed the other day that the same exact chart is in the $50 Knife Shop. So far, it's my all time favorite chart for metallurgy.
  3. This chart shows everything. Admin Note. I spoke with David Hendrix of the Hendrix Group and he was kind enough to give us permission to post this chart.
  4. It might be unusable in the present state, but you could get it working again for sure.
  5. Yep. It looks fairly similar to that one. Here's a picture of my small brick forge if it helps anything. It shows the relationship of the chimney and the firepot. I made mine with an opening in the bricks below the fire pot. The one in your picture should have it to, Just on the other side. That's what the ashes fall into when you open the ash dump.
  6. Personally, I would just go with liquid nails and a stump. The more mass, the better.
  7. If you buy from a reputable company like Jantz, you will not have problems. You can't buy it at the hardware store, but you can buy Bondo there. I've made micarta from blue jeans and Bondo before. Just look it up on YouTube.
  8. People generally don't use high carbon steel for something that doesn't need to be. Chances are, you will not be able to harden them anymore than they are.
  9. It's not a bad design, just not the best choice of handle material. Slap some micarta on there, and you're good to go.
  10. As far as the short grind goes, I consider that perfectly acceptable as long as it is flat. It's called a Scandinavian grind. As far as the beginning of the bevel goes, I consider that acceptable as well.
  11. What did the rebound look like? From the lack of a pritchel hole, and especially the obvious casting line, I'm suspecting a cast iron ASO. Purdy though.
  12. Both. I figured since RR spike knives aren't high carbon, I would try my hand at RR track knives.
  13. Are you saying that you left them cooking at 400 all night?
  14. Well, I guess it depends on who you ask, but I call anything that has an angled concave curve, or a straight angle a clip point.
