Spotted gum and hickory seems to be common for hammer handles in Australia.
Store bought hammers I usually get a rasp and file em down to my desired shape for my hand.
I always hear people telling me dip in acid bath of muriatic acid but can I use muriatic acid to brush it on???
I want to use a brush and just wipe down my anvil.
smaller galvanised fittings I can get away with a bucket of acid. But the anvil is too big.
Thanks Darren, I was reading up on anvil face repairs by Robb Gunther and I somehow came across this. So it's cigweld cobalarc toolcraft for the anvil face?
it seems stoody 1105 is only available in the USA
Hopefully it isn't someone in the community.
I can't judge an anvil by its looks. The last time I looked at one I just do the rebound and ring test.
since they are cast iron these would be just purely for display not for blacksmithing im assuming.
I buy recycled steel or from a store in Australia called gameco.
The website for steel baron looks nice but I think the international postage would be pricey.
I haven't used the anvil yet. I choose this one over the soderfers because of the size and weight.
i just throught that the face of the anvil with dents and cracks on the edge could be welded and smoothed out to look brand new again that's all.
There's some edge damage on the anvil face.
Im planning to remove the surface rust first then i will take another pic of the anvil as a comparison before I try repair it.
The only thing that bothers me is the edge of the anvil face is all chipped and dented. I want to weld fill it back then smooth out the edges. But it seems like that might do more harm then good it seems
