  1. I went 1/2" thick a bit thicker on the bottom seam, and it's held up great.
  2. That's looking like some nice work Bob.
  3. Last question. Can the switch be used to turn the pid on and off. I'm an electrical dummy.
  4. My main question is do I need a heat sink and is a 10a relay enough. Also how deep to put the probe. Here is my parts list. Does this look good?
  5. So if I buy a pid controller( part syl-2342 I saw Stacys sticky), and a ceramic hi temp thermocouple, what else do I need? I'm not exactly sure what powers it, or if it needs a heatsink. I know I need to drill a hole in my forge and place the probe out of the path of the flame, then line the hole with In my case mizzou. How deep does one want the probe? Any help would be fantastic. make sharp things
  6. I Laos my kaowool flat, sprayed it with water, smoothed on my mizzou, and waited 10 minutes. I put it into my round forge vertically inside of a cardboard box and finished the top edge. I waited 45 minutes pulled it out and did the other end. I waited 45 minutes again. I pulled it out of the box recoated the seam, which was the floor and put on a little thicker layer. Let it set overnight fire it at a mid temp and let it cool down. It has worked great ever since.
  7. I bought the $220 round pipe forge on eBay. I spent $40 lining it with mizzou and it has held up really well. It gets plenty hot enough for what you want to do.
  8. The design is the same. It sounds like you are going to have your hands full. You should probably call Sid.
  9. Anything you can hit hard that doesn't move will get you started.
  10. It looks like your ram needs a guide. It kinda looks like you're a blow away from digit damage.
  11. Not sure of the maker, but it sure is a nice anvil.
  12. Thank you all for the input. I've decided to pass on this one. Building one from scratch is above my skillset for the time being. I'll keep thinking it into being and one day one will pop up. It's happened with my anvil quest. I started a couple of years ago and am now over 10 in the collection.
  13. What does something like that run in the U.K.?
  14. What would I be looking at cost wise to retrofit it with a new cylinder and parts? Is it heavy enough frame wise to work if I altered it? I don't have much experience with hydraulic presses, but really want one to do some thicker billets.
  15. What would it take to make this press a functional press for forging. My understands is that more speed is needed. The price is right and it comes with a small metal brake.
