  1. Glenn, just gave up the flip phone. Sad to say my #4 stopped working on the dial pad. The only numbers I could dial, with a 4 were from my contacts. Gave into the smartiephone, since I have been looking at different apps, hard choice, with the endless options. As an administrator can you share the name of a dB app, you like? Its a Swedish anvil thing N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
  2. Nice score, your serial number dates this anvil as a 1900, first year A&H. Information from Mr Postmans A.I.A. When I first saw your post, I (jokingly) though, great idea for a portable anvil. Enjoy N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
  3. 58er, Thank you for stopping by, it was nice to meet you. Good news, the Village of Manchester is celebrating its 150th anniversary, on August 5th, and the blacksmith shop will be open again. Bad news, the gentleman who has been organising the blacksmith shop events, is retiring. He let me know the shop will not open again after the August date. Kinda through me for a loop. We talked for a long time, and yes I did volunteer to take the reigns. Gadzooks, any advice out there? Just a few more pictures. I will have another post with more details about the August date. Pat. 4. Fire and metal are hot. We are at 324 East Main Street. Sorry no Kohlswa, Trenton. 58er, please say hello. N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
  5. My wife had some pictures, also found some from the Manchester Area Historical Society. Today is the day. I will post photos as the day goes on. N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
  6. Bart, The main course, taste like chicken. A big draw is the "Famous" coleslaw, or is that coalslaw? Frosty, Unfortunately, it is the one day a year. Many original tools, all retired. Demonstrators bring their own tools I will post some more pictures. N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
  7. Manchester Area Historical Society, owns one of the oldest intact Main Street Blacksmith Shops in Michigan. They open their doors to the public, in conjunction with the annual chicken broil. This year it will be Thursday July 20th 2017, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. The shop is located at 324 Main Street, Manchester, Michigan. 48158 There will be smoke, fire, and noise. Great group of people demonstrating, and answering the horse shoe question, and more. Oh yea, Chicken Broil. It is 64th annual, they serve over 10k dinners. Live music, car show. This is a big event for our little village, and all ways a good time. Please come hungry. Just to date myself, this will be my sons 10th year demonstrating. Say hey to the Bean. N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
  8. I have to say, thumbs up, on the skinny fingers. Reminds me of a sculpture my grandparents had. If you are going to replace that with another, I would be interested. Oh yea, if you could keep it under 5 digits. Thomas, was talking 6 digits, probably a better option. N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
  9. Nice work, you seem to have a grip on the hand thing. N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
  10. AJ, Coke please, no Pepsi here. Sorry for the wise guy answer, could not resist. I have been blessed to know three very good smiths, and call them friends. Each one of them had a specific brand of anvil that they said were the "BEST". No real answer here, but a lot of great information and feedback on this site. I use a big name search engine, and iforgeiron in the search and find the most posts. N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
  11. Hey Jim, Looks like it could be a Plowmakers anvil. Would you please post a picture of the whole anvil. Thanks N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
  12. Iron D, The photos were not loaded when it first came up. I went back to page one, when I ended up back on page 2, poof. The envelope was there. May your camel walk a million years...heck, been humming the theme song since. N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA. Not Burbank
  13. The envelope please. Soderfors. N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
  14. Hey Knuckles, Heads up on those edges. Because of the fact there a different color than the body, looks like they were welded up. Welds=heat, in most cases it destroys the temper. Please, check the rebound on the entire face. 80%+ is my personal rule. Best of luck in the hunt N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
  15. Hey D, Try looking up T. TILLOTSON N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
  16. Hey Rook, If you asked...and its not here. Go fish. Good luck. Pat. AKA. N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
  17. Looks like 70#s of 100% ASO. Vulcans have a thin face plate, not that big bogus cast top. Expensive and ugly door stop. It would make a better anchor, you wouldn't have to look at it when it was water. Sorry if that is harsh. Heck I'm ugly, and my wife still loves me. N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
  18. Heck, thats a monster. What did you use for a finish. Looks great. N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
  19. Ac, I have a formula to figure anvil prices. Anvils are like bananas, and they sell by the pound. Even better news, you have the perfect apples to apples, or in your case, anvils to anvils comparison. Its worth half the price of your Hay-Budden. Okay, chances are a little more. Adjustable with condition, and rebound. All in fun N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
  20. Hey Kevin, The 166#er more than likely crossed the pond. Thinking it looks very Swedish. Before you bolted it down, and chained it up..how loud was the ring? Any cast lines? N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
  21. Fud, good eye. Chris, a couple more shots may be helpful, shoot from the shelf too the tail, where the face plate should be. Probably best with the anvil at 45s, say if you are looking North, the horn will pointing SW, then the next shot looking South, horn still SW. With indirect lighting, all ways a help. Oh yea, rebound? Hammer marks, on the face.... smooth, signs of use, or does it look like the surface of the moon? N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
  22. Nice find. Hard too see that serial number, looks like 11,507 if so it is a 1894, or is it 115,017 that would be a 1906. That is according to AIA. N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
  23. New, Blacksmithing is a long journey. What I see looking at you picture is, the gas can, first I would move that. The journey should not end with a bang. Looks like the forge could be a little unstable. Free is good. DW, Never heard it called a paddle, all ways though it was an airgate. From now on its a paddle. I am running a large fan, took awhile to dial in. Actually have an damper on an all most open 3" hvac T. In addition to my paddle.
  24. I was also thinking Brooks. Feet look too square for Brooks....PW ish. Gotta see what I under that rust, please. N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
  25. Bart, Nice find. Hands down the Canedy Otto is the best handcranker I have ever used. Yes, I have used a couple of Champion 400s. Not trying to start a debate. From what I have seen it is just a matter of production numbers. People also sing the praise of Hay-Buddens, and for good reason. On the other hand, they also produced more than 250K anvils than Arm&Hammer. Just my 2 cents N.N.F. Beautiful, Manchester, Michigan. USA
