  1. I see reference to Peter Wright anvils having anchor stamps on them. Could/should I assume this is actually a PW anvil? Any ideas as to the vintage?
  2. After cleaning it up with a wire wheel, I only found one recognizable mark. No numbers or letters. Just this Anchor.
  3. I finally found an anvil that I decided to buy. I don't know anything about it other than the guy I purchased it from had it for the last 25 years. I don't know the exact weight, but it's all of 200lbs if not more. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Kevin I'd also be thankful for any suggestions on cleaning it up, if necessary? I was just thinking to get the paint splatter off. Etc. Maybe wire wheeling it. Kevin
  4. I have not, I will try to find it. Thank you.
  5. Thank you for the prompt replies. I'll go prepared to do the testing. Providing it tests well, and it weighs the 150lbs they are suggesting. His asking price is $2/LB (CAD). If I buy it, what should I do to it? It was obviously ground, hopefully not much but it definitely left marks. I greatly appreciate the warm welcome and kind responses. Kevin
  6. I have the opportunity to buy this anvil I only have 2 relatively poor pics. It's about an hour drive away from me and I'm trying to arrange a time to meet. The seller suggests there is no maker mark or brand name visible. From the pics I couldn't see any. I was hoping that some of you may be able to identify it. I would also appreciate any feedback on the anvil including any major red flags or pros. I'm a noob, but I know finding anvils in my area is really hard and any that come up for sale often sell fast and quite expensive. Thanks in advance.
  7. I just wanted to say hello. I'm 38 years old from Nova Scotia, Canada. I've never forged anything, but I've been cutting blades out of old saw blades and whatever scrap metals I could find since I was around 10. I'm looking to get started in forging as a hobby for now. I would like to make blades eventually. Cheers, Kevin
