    That's rough Robert. Gopher hole thing was pretty funny but afterwards...ugh. I live at the bottom of a hill and things can get bad when it rains enough. While my shop is fine, my house is the target. I have slowly been working at fixing drainage issues.

    Thanks John. That's my favorite so far too. Being an Eagle Scout I guess it just has more meaning and it turned out the best I think. They feel good in the hand Bubba.

    Well it's an improvement in weight and a small improvement in mass and hardness. steel is way better then a cast iron ASO.

    One should work fine then. Have you tried a rebound test to see about hardness? Either way they should get you started. You could mount one flat and mount one round side up for better drawing out.

    Are they steel or cast iron? If they are steel I would just mount one up to a stump, smooth the surface, maybe flatten one edge, radius the edges and get hammering. If they are cast iron they are good for counter weights. If it works as an anvil, and functions like an anvil, it's an anvil.

    I'm surprised it's working that high up from the forge. Looks like a nice hood. I'd double check but I think you are atleast good up to 4-500degrees F before the galvy is at risk. Keep up the testing.

    Have you tried checking out any scrap yards? Also you could look into trying to get a chunk of steel from a metal fabrication shop. Sometimes they have left over stock and are willing to sell some.

    If you think of it as an investment on a tool that will last you a lifetime + then that isn't so much is it? As long as it has good rebound.

    I see what you mean JHCC. If I'd have made sharper bends in the 5 pieces or use 10 sections welded up it would be easier to wind up with sharper angles. Thanks.

    Thanks Jimmy. Templehound, I know exactly what you mean. It would be easy to do at any time, so I will leave that option open to them. And that you for the compliment. Aus, it took a bit of tweaking and fiddling with. Yup, got some critters kicking around the shop lol.

    Did another heart a few weeks ago out of one section of pipe, and a fleury de lis, out of many manipulated pieces of pipe, for my old Boy Scout troop tonight. Heart is 1 1/2" tall and 1 5/8" wide. The fleur de lis is 4 1/2" tall by 3 5/8 wide.

    There are a few more places I havnt looked at yet. If they don't pan out I will have to ask. I'm probably paying more for galvanizing that I have to strip off anyway.

    Nice! A friend just brought me over a handful of rusty ones. The ones I find to buy are galvy. coated and need an acid dip to remove the coating, then neutralized.
